They might be good at whatever it is they do, but it is not enough to warrant the kind of fame/celebrity that will garner them the type of post-Prince celebrity lifestyle that they are seeking. So the need to align themselves with another celebrity becomes apparent for them.

Wait a minute in defense to Mayte, she was doing her own thing before Prince. She was already considered a professional belly dancer at the age of 8. Yes, her mother sent Prince a tape of her dancing backstage. Prince wanted to meet her. Prince said "That is going to be his wife". Mayte didn't seek Prince out he went after her. Mayte had her own talent before she met Prince.
It is well know that Mani was an obessed fan that did everything in her power to get to Prince. Mani was making moves before Prince was divorced. Tommy asked about Mayte. He talked about it in an interview. She didn't chase Tommy. Yes, marrying Prince definatly changed Maytes life and she is further ahead but she was on her way before P.

But I think bellanoche's point is that bellydancing alone would NOT have garnered Mayte the amount of fame and press that being Mrs. Nelson did. Besides that does not qualify as an amazing talent. Tommy Lee wouldn't have even know who the hell she was if she wasn't Prince's ex which I think also supports bellanoche's point. Also, she did pursue Tommy Lee on that VH1 reality show because I saw her constantly harrassing him to marry her and it was clear he didn't want to marry her but she kept nagging him. He later said he had no intention of marrying her and only asked because she wanted to be married so bad.

I am curious as to why people say Eric was crazy for cheating on halle.

I agree, Mayte definitely seemed desperate to me in that Tommy Lee farce. I thought it was pathetic when I saw it, because it was clear that she wanted to make herself relevant in his life by being ominpresent. In an interview last year she said she was just having fun, and that she encouraged him to reconcile with Pam. However, I think she said that just to save face. Because in retrospect she really came off as clingy and pathetic. I felt bad for her because it seemed that she was desperately trying to show Prince that she didn't need him or that she was over him. It was childish and sad.

Finally, I want to clarify that I am not hating on either of these women, rather I am just looking at these situations realistically.

Oh yeah brotha man been fine but it's funny how he got cheated on the video. Also the ex and the new girl looked just alike, almost carbon (no pun intended. . . maybe) copies of Halle and Mani. Looks like Eric has the same "preferences" as Prince. . . LOL!
