777 93 11- Who was playing the bass part ?

I saw this clip a few minutes ago while searching for some old school funk songs and I noticed something strange after 2.31 minutes ...Terry Lewis puts his hands up ( both hands ) and the bass part continues.
How is that possible ? Was it prerecorded ( which I doubt, as Jesse Johnson is obviously playing live) , or was Prince or someone else playing the bass part behind the curtain, like he would do a year after this show when Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis couldn´t make it to the show and got fired.

Any info ? Don´t know if it´s ok to post this but since lots of other orgers post links like this, I guess it´s ok as long as it´s not a Prince video .
http://www.youtube.com/wa...ed&search=

As I said, watch closely after 2.31 minutes.

Shouldn't this be in the associated artists forum? wink
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I think you misunderstood my question. I ´m not talking about the album version but that live version I mentioned above.Watch the clip and you´ll see what I mean.

Prince played almost all instruments on that album, so Morris saying "Terry" doesn´t mean anything. Besides, Prince did play the bass not only on the album version but also during one gig when Jam and Lewis couldn´t come to the show due to a snow storm...but as I said, I´m referring to the live version from that footage I mentioned above. He´s obviously putting his hands up but the bass part still continues. I was wondering how that´s possible, not meant to diss Terry or anything, just curious.

Terry is playing bass, Jimmy is behind him on synth. Jesse is on lead guitar.

Terry doesn't play the main riff.. that's Jesse's part, and the camera is totally off of Jesse during the part you said to closely watch.

Nothing to contribute to the question, since Cinnie already answered. I just wanted to say that clip was awesome and I think it'd be cool to have 777-9311 as my phone number. boxed lol

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Jesse´s part ? eek I´m talking about the bass part, not the guitar. It´s definitely a bass guitar, not Jesse´s 6-string.
You know, that 7779311 bassline that Prince plays on his bass guitar during aftershows ( occasionally ).
How can that be Jesse´ s part ? Is he using the bass strings of his guitar ? If so , then who´s playing the bass riff while Jesse is playing his solo ?

I checked the clip now too, nothin' fishy goin' on there. The sound is kinda distorted and all but you can hear the bass kickin' in again soon after the the part where Terry lifts his hands up.

I'm saying the bassline drops out during the part you're talking about, and it was only Jesse at that point.

can you hear the difference though? when terry puts his hand back down, jesse keeps playing the same thing you heard while terry's hands were up. you can hear the extra layer that terry provides when he starts playing again.

Thanks for the details, I didn´t know that it´s possible to create that "deep" sound with a 6-string. And yes, the bass kicking in again is audible after 2.39.

On the album version, Prince plays bass on the song. The big question is who plays that guitar solo in the song. I think that's even Prince just because at that time it just Morris Day and Jamie Starr (Prince) performing with very little help from Prince's band members at the time.

Jesse's swagger and stage presence was very Prince-like.

Jesse was definitely one of the finest male Prince associates, as well as very talented.

That clip was cool, cool performance by The Time. How about that performance of '777-9311' on the hard to find Prince "Homecoming" bootleg dvd (the triple threat/1999 tour show in Uptown). The Time had a great, everybody was great on that show. I think that's the best 1999/triple threat tour show along with the late 1982 Detroit shows. But, The Time was great on that show in Uptown, y'all gotta check that out. Jesse Johnson is on there killing the guitar solo. Jesse was feeling it. Even before that performance, during 'Get It Up' Jesse was already in the rock star zone. Watch out, Prince!
