I forgot which book I read this in, but if I recall the track to "Belle of St. Mark" belonged to Jesse, and Prince wrote the lyrics. In return Prince gave Jesse writing credit for Shorberry Strawcake. | |

I"ll have to look this up in the vault when i get home. but i never understood this.....why NOT give credit on song A, and then GIVE credit on song B which the person didn't write?? It would be easier to just give credit where credit is due. |

Well.... not the percussion  .... which is a key part of the song.
Speaking of which, imagine if Glamorous Life had been done by Apollonia 6 as originally planned. It wouldn't have had all the timbale, cymbal and percussion work that Sheila rocks out on. SOme of it's subtle too. if you listen on headphoens you can really hear tons of stuff going on. Back to Shortberry Strawcake. i'm pretty sure Jesse is either co-writer or plays guitar. |

Prince would sometimes take a credit away from someone in a legitimate area and apply it in an illegitimate area". Apart from Sheila's percussion parts, Prince played everything on the album. Lisa's brother David played cello on Oliver's House and The Glamorous Life, and Jill Jones added vocals to The Belle of St. Mark and Oliver's House. Other musicians added violin and accordion. Shortberry Strawcake was an album track so was very unlikely to get radio airplay and therefore less $$$ 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Moreover, why did everyone put up with this? I mean letting someone play with the credits..... it's illegal! |
