T.C. Ellis is a freindly man. I met him back in 1991 or 1992 and asked him a few questions about him getting into rap.

Yeah I do. Nice guy but as an MC? Well..... Let's just say that his rap skills were lacking a little bit. Just a little bit though.

as I recall, he is related to Sue Ann Carwell, a former Prince associate from the early 1980s. I think they are brother/sister, but I'd have to go back to my notes to double check that one.
Also, I always thought TC stood for Twin Cities. [Edited 2/18/07 20:32pm] The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I'm pretty sure that TC stood for Twin Cities, but who cares.
I don't connect much with him besides the voice on NPG (the GB track) and one of the weaker associates albums on the shelf.

T.C. means True Confessions of course a name given to him from your Royal Badness himself. I KNOW he's not gangsta rap but he was aiight and i try to buy anything that Prince is involved in.....Can you say PROTEGE??
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
OK, protege. And I exactly know what you mean. I have lots and lots of records on my shelf just because of 1 Prince written or produced track. Fortunately I have overcome that phase.
But this TC Ellis album is still not too good and it hasn't grown on me through the years. But of course that's just my opinion.

DO ya'll remember T.C. Ellis???
Unfortunately yes. Worst P rapper of all time. One thing is for sure, P sure the hell didn't know shit about rap because he'd always get these weak ass rappers on his shit. The ideal rapper for P would have been Q-Tip. P did get better with his choices of rappers as time went on, with his best being Eve on the remix of TGRTEBS, Chuck D and Doug E. Fresh was ok on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic album. Cornbread, Grits, and Collard Greens/I got what you need/If you want it/Cuz I'm a pimp, girl/With a drippy, juicy Jheri Curl

I bought the maxi-single and I don't recall there being a Q-Tipped version.
