Purple Rain soundtrack re release

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Purple Rain CD was going to be re released containing all the songs from the film, including Apollonia 6, The Time and Dez Dickerson. Can anyone confirm if it's true?

Sad but, not true. There is no plans for the re-release of the soundtrack to 'Purple Rain' by Prince and The Revolution. Originally the soundtrack was to contain songs that appeared in the film 'Purple Rain'. In it's early stage of constructing the soundtrack, it was set to feature music from Prince and The Revolution, Apollonia 6, The Time, and Dez Dickerson (in true soundtrack form). Understand, Prince worked on various projects at this time of making the soundtrack and film of 'Purple Rain' including The Time's third album, Apollonia 6's debut album, and Sheila E.'s debut album. As time went, Prince began turning the soundtrack into his album. His constant recording including with The Revolution pave the way the album that we have today. There is a promotional rare 2LP album called 'Strange Tales From The Rain' that was released in 1984 in Japan courtesy of Warner Bros. Records that may be the closest to the original idea of the soundtrack.
