Vanity 6 CD: Fake or Real?

I have two Vanity 6 CDs and I'm going to sell one, but I before I do I want to make sure that the one I'm selling isn't a real one. I actually think both of them are pirate copies, but I would like an expert opinion just in case. Thanks.

Here are what the covers look like:

Version 1:

Version 2:

As you can see version 1 didn't scan as well and shows less image than version 2, but a thread on Housequake says version 2 is a fake by looking at the disc itself which is why I think they are both fakes.

Man!

I just bought one on the bay and hope it's not a stiff!

There's a "money back guarantee" on it, though.

From what I remember seeing over at the Quake, the FIRST disc pictured looks like the bogus one.

I'll have to look again...

The first one definitely looks fake to me. The cover art is washed-out and not as crisp. If I were going to keep one, it would be the second one, but again I want other people's opinions before I make a final decision.

Did you buy it from someone in Canada? Cause I got screwed that way--still sealed and a money back guarantee. It was totally fake. I could tell once I opened the liner notes. There were some words that were wrong. (I don't want to write them here, since then the fakers might change their product....PM me if you want details.)

More scans:

Version 1:

Version 2:

Check out the text in version 1, specifically the word 'Vanity'. It looks uneven like someone tried their best to recreate the original font. And the A's in 'Vanity' and 'Warner' don't match. More reasons why I think version 1 is a fake.

Are there any authenticity experts out there?

I'm not registered at Housequake. But I may have to do that to get an answer.

Another way I realized mine was fake pissed was that there was no WB watermark in the back of the jewel case, even though it was advertised as new, and still sealed. The watermark is the WB logo that is slightly raised in the plastic on the lower right. Look at your Prince albums to find a real one, and then compare to the V6.

That's not always true, Jone!
Not 5 minutes before I PMed you back, I went through all my WB cds looking for exactly that! The Warners' raised jewel stamp.
The earlist releases I saw it on was TBA re-release & Come from 1994.

If I remember correctly, to tell a fake from a kosher copy it's all down to the numbers on the inner ring of the CD, although don't ask me which ones are correct as I can't remember!

Ah, but if you look closely at both discs, the numbers are the same! They are just in different fonts.

True it's not always the case--the jewel case could have broken and been replaced, but lack of watermark added to all the other stuff being suspect strengthened my belief that mine was fake...

First off - Please tell the buyer that it is a pirate disc - very uncool if you don't.
(I wasn't sure whether I should post this, as we started the "Known Fakes" thread at HQ to stop folks getting ripped off - I hope you do the right thing)

I have both real and pirate discs, and you can tell the difference when looking at them side by side. They sound identical, though.

Some people don't care. They just want a copy of the album on disc.

Right, I saw this thread on Housequake, but the first disc I posted looks like neither of these. If you look closely, the inside band on mine is larger than the legit pic that you posted although the font of the number code looks similar.

And to be totally honest, I was going to try to send the CD back to the person that I got it from with this thread as proof that the disc isn't legit.

Here's a detail of the first disc:

Not exactly the same as the legit one, is it? So does this mean that it's a fake?

Exactly. If I wanted an extremely rare CD that was out of print,I wouldn't care if it was fake.

Exactly, I have a copy and I don't care. I am not going to pay $200.00 for a CD.

Yeah but none of the ones getting sold on ebay (for up to $50) state that they are not legit.
I was quite happy with my pirate until I managed to find a legit version for a reasonable price.

Thanks. I hope this thread is enough to convince the person from whom I got the disc to take it back.

I will be keeping the second one even though it's a fake too because it looks a lot better.

I just got a 'Vanity 6' disc in the mail today, and even though the Shithouse Factory made a great attempt, it's definately fake.

Aside from the afore mentioned tell-alls, the front cover photo is absolutely rediculous. It's so grainy, I might as well be staring at a desert (sorry, bad analogy neutral )

Anyhoo,
don't buy from this guy, if he ever tries to sell again:
