CAN U TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE FAMILY JAMM???

I've seen several post that reference the "Family Jamm" performance by the reunited Revolution excluding Prince. I am pretty lost regarding this....can someone please fill me in? When did this performance occur? What songs did they perform? Are their any pictures available??? Thanks for any info. Personally, I think BrownMark is an incredible bassplayer and I love the Revolution as a whole and would have loved to have seen this performance. Thanks in advance for any info!

An orger on here wrote an excellent review of the whole show, but I don't have the link to it.

Basically, Sheila E and her friend/business partner/manager/background singer Lynn Mabry (former singer with George Clinton's Brides of Funkenstein) founded a charity to help children who were abused and at risk. The charity was called The Lil Angel Bunny Foundation (LABF) but recently they renamed it Elevate Hope Foundation

http://www.elevatehope.org/

Info on their site about Family Jamm:
http://www.elevatehope.or...yjamm.html

Basically, Sheila organized a benefit concert for LABF in which she reunited many of the Prince-related bands for a one-night-only event. In other words, a dream-come true concert event! smile

The proceeds all went to her foundation to help children who have been abused and neglected (you can read more about the foundation's misison at the website).

The concert was held in LA and included:

  • Jill Jones (singing Mia Bocca)
  • Apollonia (singing Take Me With U)
  • Madhouse (Yes! Madhouse, consisting of Sheila on drums, Dr. Fink on keys, Eric Leeds on Sax, and Sheila's house band on bass (Ray McKinley I think) and drums and possibly Miko on guitar?
  • The Family ---- Yes the Family!!! their 2nd only concert appearance, the 1st being 17 years earlier (St. Paul, Susannah, Jellybean, Jerome, & Eric Leads)
  • Sheila E with her 80's era band (Stef Burns, Susie Davis, Karl Perazzo, Juan E, Benny Rietveld)
  • Chaka Khan (singing I Feel 4 U)
  • Patti Labelle (singing Yo Mister)
  • The Time (with Sheila dressed up as Morris since he didn't show up, doing Jungle Love, and she and Jerome nailed it!)
  • The Revolution - Yes! The Revolution reunited: Wendy leading the band and on guitar, Lisa, Dr. Fink, BrownMark, Bobby Z, plus Eric on Sax and Susannah on backing vox. Someone listed their set above.

(the exact order and names may not be totally right; apologies for any mistakes or omisisons)

The finale was an extended jam of Baby I'm A Star kind of like they did back on the Purple Rain tour, with all the artists joining onstage, plus several people who particiapted in a charity auction who bid for special seats and the chance to be onstage for the finale (I was one of them! smile ).

As Madartista put it, one of the best nights of my life!

It was an amazing show. There was a very detailed article in UPTOWN that quoted a lot of the performers and had a lot of backstage info in it.

If they do it again (and it sounds like they might!)... GO!

Thanks to all of you who replied!!!! It does seem like an incredible night and I would definitely try to attend if it happens again. I don't understand why the Revolution wouldn't reunite and record a new album? I know the different members have their own thing going but I'm sure they would make some good cash, have a lot of fun, and most importantly make a lot of great music if they reunited without Prince. Plus, wouldn't it be a trip to have the Revolution making albums and Prince too? Can you imagine all the fans comparing which albums are better? I think that would be weird as hell and I would love to see it happen.

It wasn't that bad smile.

The backround singers held it down, but Apples wasn' flat or anything. I think the either forgo he words or came in a he wrong time at one point and kinda laughed it off. it was cool though; we all were into it and she was a sport.

she also went 2nd which was pretty brave (Jill was 1st and the sound wasn't quite right yet).
