"Color of success" Tour

Did anybody see this? If so, how was it. Has anybody ever seen Morris perform without the time period?

I saw him on this tour. He was actually one of the opening acts on a festival that also featured Teena Marie and some others. Must have been around 1988 or 89. It was the first and only time I saw him solo and it was good but disappointing after I had seen the first live shows by the Time on the Controversy tour.

It was very slick and choreographed with alot of people onstage and dancing chicks. It looked just like the live footage on the Color of Success video. Its all OK but Morris needs the Time and the Time needs Prince. Its always been that way.

Yeah i saw him. The very first concert i ever saw back in 85. There were like 6 groups playing and Morris was the next to last act and the only one we really cared to see. It was a good show. he only did about 7 songs. half were time songs and the rest was off color of sucess.

I also had tickets to see him on the daydreaming tour, but unfortunatily the show was cancelled( I'm assuming from lack of tickets sales since this was like a 10,000 seat place and i would guess that there were only a couple thousand folks there) I did get a t shirt though : )

I saw this one. It came to my city along with Doug E. Fresh and New Edition. There was another group also but I can't remember which one it was. I think it was Ready For The World (I went to so many concerts that year).

New Edition was supposed to be the headliner and Morris was to be the act that came on right before them. When it was time for Morris to perform, we all sat in a completely silent coliseum for what seemed to be forever. Someone came out and made an announcement that Morris Day was running late and would be there shortly. We waited and we waited and we waited. Finally, people started booing and getting restless. New Edition ended up performing first and then Morris Day performed after they finished. I wonder if Morris was late on purpose so he could be the headliner. lol

Anyway, Morris' performance was not all that and everyone was disappointed with it. I remember him doing "Oak Tree" and maybe one other song from his album. The rest of the songs were from The Time with the exact same dance moves and slides. It was like seeing a live version of their performance in "Purple Rain" except with a replacement for Jerome.

I was asked to audition for that tour but I'm glad I didn't. It was Morris Day w/Pebbles opening. I still have the itinerary. It started in late April or late May of 88 but June in Chicago was the last show I think because of slow sales. Most were theater dates but it criss-crossed with the Budwieser Superfest that year. I stayed where I was (another Minneapolis Artist who went out in late April) and ended up on a very successful tour that same year. Morris was cool as always though. It was an Al Haimen Production I think.

Wow. I would have loved to see that double bill. I love both Pebbs and Morris.

I don' remember hearing about it in 1988.

I didn't see the tour. I know Pebbles and Morris Day did showtime at the apollo to promote the tour. Vanessa Williams said in an interview they were booed eek . But when the shows aired (pebbles and Morris were on different episodes) no boos neutral You can catch re-runs of the apollo show f/ pebbles and new kids on the block on TV ONE.

I saw the Color of Success tour in St Paul, MN at the civic center. The bill featured The Jets, Starpoint, and Morris Day. The show was nice. Most of the Time members were in the audience minus Jesse. I was disappointed that their were no suprise cameos on stage. His band held their own though.

I was at that show too. I remember it was set up for half-venue seating, and had a good turn out. I still have my ticket stub. wink

yeah it was my first "proper" concert in an auditorium. NuShooz opened for him. He was very cool about them, and said something like" weren't they Cool" during his own set. I remember being surprised by how much make-up he and the singers, his wife Judy was one of them, were wearing. It was "the time" schtick w/out Jerome but I wasn't complaining. his band was much less funky than the Time, more pop.

Jeez, i was in jr high school then....another lifetime ago, it seems.

I caught the tour in Rochester NY. with Full Force & Lisa Lisa opening-Morris put on a nice set & had a nice stage backdrop-did a few songs from Color Of Success then the rest we're Time songs-still prefer him with the Time though.
