Check out this story from the Tascam web site, which features a pic of Renato, Rhonda and Mike Scott:

http://www.tascam.com/Pre...rince.html

TASCAM's trio of CD Trainers made the behind-the-scene action on the last leg of the Prince "Musicology tour" this past summer. Keyboardist Renato Neto, bassist Rhonda Smith and guitarist Mike Scott (pictured LtoR) put the CD trainers through their paces, learning last minute material for the arena shows and club "after show" dates. Prince's Musicology tour set lists boasted Prince material spanning 25+ years, plus cover tunes by artists ranging from Tower of Power ("What is Hip?") to Ohio Players ("Love Rollercoaster," "Skin Tight") to James Brown ("Pass the Peas") to the Commodores ("Brick House") to Sam & Dave ("Soul Man") to Sly & the Family Stone ("I Wanna Take You Higher")… and many more!

So funny, I have the same (black) at home !! bought it two or three years ago don't remember.

Rhonda is right, it's a great machine to quiclky learn a song, but the embeded effect are not that good and the CD player sometimes won't read my CD, like CDR etc...well, you know made in China.

Basically it's a cd player you can plug yr instrument into, guitar or keyboard or whatever. You can play along with whatever CD to learn a song. The special features are that you can adjust the speed and the pitch independently. So you can slow down a solo or a riff and listen to it in the same key to learn it. The Tascam thing will play a cd or it will isolate a phrase from that CD and repeat it. Sounds like a great tool. I've been wanting one for a while.

I have one of these and I would recommend Transcribe! in its' place. Much less expensive, but the sound quality of the software blows the tascam away. The only thing you lose are the on board effects, but if you already have your pedalboard setup, you really don't need that. Google Transcribe for more info. I believe they even let you download the full version to demo for a few weeks.

Dude! That 'Transcribe' is awesome! I spent all evening and the wee hours of the morning playing with it. First thing I did was put in the end part of Black Sabbath's Into the Void and I learned this twiddly Tony iommi guitar riff that I have been wanting to learn since I first started playing guitar. I slowed the riff down and played along with it and then sped it up until i got up to speed. I can play it now! That shit is awesome!

I also put Erotic City into it and listened to the plinky background guitar line at it's normal recorded speed. Did the same with If i was your Girlfriend and the vocal line. Fucking cool!

I have the black CD Trainer; it has been a LIFESAVER in helping me learn tunes. Ima look into Transcribe, too.
