Cherrelle. Prince Girl Or not?

Is Cherrelle a Prince Girl?
I argue every now and then with my uncel about this topic.

She is:
she was produces by the jimmy jam terry lewis, Randy Ran, Dave z, Bobby z.
Did dress like the paisley people
played the drums like Sheila E.
Toured With The Time and klymaxx
did record a couple of songs at paisley park
ect.....

She's not:
on the WB paisley park Lable
In any prince Videos
Produced By prince
in any prince movie's
ect.....

Cherrelle is not a prince girl. She's beyond a prince girl. She is a really good singer. I didn't know she plays the drums.

Thanks you. It's good to have some one back me up on this matter. My uncle would bet his life on his belief that she is.

Cherelle was not a Prince girl. She never worked with Prince at all. She was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis after they left The Time.

If she toured with The Time and Klymaxx, she was just strictly on their tour with them. Klymaxx was not affiliated with Prince in any way. They were a very talented group of girls that played their own instruments led by the one and only Bernadette Cooper (a cool female Morris Day herself). lol

I can see why your uncle would be mistaken because her music definately has that Minneapolis Sound. After all, she was produced by ex-Time members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Cherelle would kick the sh*t out of any of the prince girls...physically and vocally...(including wendy & lisa).

i have nothing for respect for the girl...without cherelle there would be no whitney or mariah.

I thought you liked Cherelle. Why are you insulting her? evillol Whitney or Mariah could never do some hardcore funk jams like "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" or "You Look Good To Me". They have no rhythm.

It feels so good to have people on my side on this matter. I do love Cherrelle and have all of her albums but my point to my uncle was that she was in no way a prince girl. With that said my love for Sheila is greater!!! wink

If by "not cute enough" you mean not relying on her looks to get her over in the music biz then NO, she is not a "Prince girl". Cherrelle is talented. That's all she ever needed to be.
And yes Rhonda, there is a glass ceiling for singers like Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Jaguar Wright, Adriana Evans, Lizz Wright and the like. You know the media rule for "us" - light-skinned/mixed looking thin sistas and dark-skinned thug looking brothas. Image over talent these days.

She's exquisite! I tried to turn a female R&B singer friend of mine on to her but she thought Lizz was a little too jazzy for her taste. I think her voice is expressive and sultry. Have you heard Adriana Evan's song "7 Days"? She's picking up where Kina left off a little bit. I suspect she will suffer the same fate as Kina if folks don't support her. She has a Tina meets Chaka thing going on vocally. For the mainstream, she's too dark, not sexy enough and she smokes in her video. That's probably going to hurt her a little. I like her though.

Go to Amazon.com and check her out. The range on her CD is kinda trippy. She has songs that are very contemporary R&B and then she has stuff like 7 Days. I bet the marketing dept. for her label had a fit when they heard her. The downside is sistas like her & Kina ALWAYS get f'ed over by the labels because crossing genres these days is NOT ACCEPTABLE. What a shame. I hope she slips through the cracks.

omg I jacked the Cherrelle thrad. I'm sooo sorry! Back to the topic. Cherrelle is great!

I never thought her cuteness was a factor in determining her talent or musical worth. That's just my freakin opinion-The girl ain't cute. And just cause she CAN sing doesn't mean that I have to over look her lack of looks. I'm sure lots of folks think that she's damn cute. I'm sure to lots of people her talent makes her sexy. it is just my opinion that she ain't cute. That has NOTHING to do with her talent. Two seperate issues. damn.

I don't remember Adriana Evans being that dark...I did love that "Seeing is believing" joint from back in the days...going to have to peep her new stuff out.

She's not India Arie dark, she's brown. She's just not "high yella" like the typical sistas in the media in general.

Cherrelle played the drums on narada's tours and she played the timbale's on the artificial heart video. She Tought herself how to play the drum. you can find this information on the inside of the re-release of "fragile".

And Your right. She can sing but not like whitney, eventhough i don't think that was the point that the others where making. i think they where saying that she opened the doors for female r&b artist like her self.

Mariah sang "i didn't mean to turn you on" on the movie glitter. I like Cherrel ls Version waaaaay better. smile

Definitely not a Prince girl or whatever
Just because she did drugs with Alexander O'neal
doesn't make her in any way associated with Prince.
He(Prince) had enough crack head following behind him ie. Vanity. smile.
so sue me.
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

Whatever happened to Kina? I loved "Girl From The Gutter" Man did she sing that song with passion. It was like she was reliving every word.
