Anybody ever seen Jesse Johnson live? Not with the time, solo. If so, how was he?

Would've loved to have seen him in the early days of his solo career. ~And even when I'm right, I'll be wrong...it's Automatic too.

i almost got to see him at First Avenue back in 1988, but when my friends and i arrived at the venue we discovered it was a 21+ show and so we couldn't get in. we were all very, very disappointed, let me tell you.
i remember the audience had been asked to wear pink to the show, and so my friends and i had all dressed up that day in pink and white.

Yeah, twice. During his debut album in 85 in L.A and again in 96 in L.A. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

Let me tellu, Jessie BLAZES as a lead guitarist. He was held back sooooo much when he was with The Time. When I had seen The Time twice with the o.g members, I thought Jessie was very good. BUT, seeing him as a solo artist, well, I can see why Jessie kept P up at nights wondering how in the fuck could he cut off Jessie's hands and get away with it! I remember when heard "My life" on the main hard rock station hear in town. I went nuts. I know the album didn't exactly blow up, but how many african-american men have you heard on the radio playing music like that?

I saw Jesse open for TEena Marie and Franki Beverly. Most have been around 1984 - he had just hit with his first solo record. It was half Time, half Prince and all funky.

I saw his performance at First Avenue. Jesse tore the house down. He sang all his hits up until that time and he performed "Jungle Love" and Ice Cream Castles" which he said that he wrote along with Prince and Morris Day. Everybody, You gotta believe this fact. If you think that Jesse's guitar playing is good on recording, His live playing is wayyyyy better. He ROCKS in concert.

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I have a dvd of a performance of his at 1st Avenue from 1985. The quality is good but since it's sourced from a VHS tape it kinda jumps and skips. Bu it is such a cool show!! I hate that it cuts off during "Ice Cream Castles" cuz I'm sure he performed "be your man". It also has his appearance from BETs Video Soul with future NPG member Marva King duetting with him on an acoustic version of "Black In America". Good Stuff!! Well worth trackin down...
