Hi Everyone,


After reading a book by Liz Jones about Prince,I discovered that Prince was secretly engaged to and madly inlove with Susannah Melvoin. She is the twin sister to guitarist Wendy Melvoin of the revolution. I was surprised. Many people always speak about Prince's other past love intersts but they hardly ever mention Susannah.Liz Jones stated that Prince was the one who called of the engagement/wedding. Jones also stated that while Prince was with Susannah, he wrote/created alot of songs like If I was your girlfriend,Strange Relationship,Nothing compares to u,Forever in my life.And basically many songs on the PARADE album.

He was with her for like 3-4 years.That is longer than his marriage to Mayte and suppossedly his relationship with Manuela.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Does any one have any pictures of Susannah?

AC, u can see a picture of susannah if u look at the cover of "The Family". She's standing with.....gosh, cant remember that dude's name.

Prince also wrote empty room after his break up with Susannah, (which is also around the time he made the "...negative" black ablum)

Ive always said all the best love/heartbreak songs were inspired by her, and while this is easily debatable, the fact remains that he had his most prolific period in the mid-eighties, coincidentally while he was with Susannah. Many people think he never quite got over her. It would seem they broke up because of a big mistake on his part, he couldnt take the commitment or the pressure or something...

Susannah rocks.

I read that she was very happy while engaged to him and deeply in love, and while he was in Europe on tour, he broke off their engagement. Something about him wanting to see other women or something like that.

Anyway, I've always liked her best out of Prince's women. She was one of the few who didn't seem to fit into the exotic Barbie doll role that he usually goes for. Plus, I look like her.

She seemed like one of the more intellegent ones!

Yes it was written for Susannah and this is mentioned in "Possessed." She had a boyfriend when they first met and The Beautiful Ones was written for her as a sort of plea for her to choose him over her boyfriend.

Whats "possesed"? Or is there just no point in reading it if youve read the Per Nilsen book and Liz Jones book?

get a grip people. Patty Kottero was married before during and after purple rain. P orginally wanted Susanna Hoffs to play the lead female role. As far as most of the women that claimed to have dated him publically where going for the gold.Vanity signed a confidentuallity contract she could not tell the truth if she could remember it in a drug addicted haze. Vanity AkA DEnise matthews dated rick james Mikki free of shalamar,and messed around with eddie murphy while her sister patricia was dating him.
Depends on what you call dating... Photo opt or the real thing you'll never really know who he was dating at anytime. Don't you all think Vanity would have been sued by now if she actually dated P for real. wouldn't that be violating the agreement to keep his private life out of her mouth... smile play on words.
