You know, when people mention anything from The Time, hardly ever is this SONG brought up. I'm usually the one who will say "Well, what about "Ice Cream Castle?". I think this was VERY different for The Time. Not musically per se, but theme wise. These lyrics were definately something that P wrote, but for some reason, he didn't feel he should keep them for himself. The song, about interracial love, if P had to pass it off to somebody, Mazarati would have fit that better than The Time did. The lyrics to this would have fit perfectly to the music of "Strawberry Lover". It just seemed odd to me hearing Morris sing "U are fine. U are white, I am of color. Let's fall in love." Don't get me wrong, I really dig this song. Very cool title. Cool subject matter. Very cool video. Very cool album cover. I remember the summer it came out. Summer of 84, P's year. Out here in So. Cal, everything was purple. P always had a strong following in Cali, so when word had it that he was doing a major motion picture, it was everywhere. Hollywood took notice in a bigtime way. So, anything connected to P got major exposure. So, this song got HEAVY rotation out here. Anyway, who here digs this song?

I dug the lyrics on that cut, it was the music on it that I couldn't get into, it seemed dry for some reason.

A thing that I always found interesting were some of the lyrics.

"It's raining. Mad sisters, why can't they realize

Prince, what won't be long? That everywhere, you'll see brothers with white girls, so all the "mad sisters" (black girls) better get ready? That's probably why P didn't keep this one for himself, cuz P was already getting heat for appearing to favor white girls over sisters. This has always been a touchy subject. I remember hearing all the time during the 1999 period that why didn't P have any black girls in his band. I said "J.J. is black." "Nah, she doesn't count, she's mixed." "He has Vanity 6. Vanity and Susan, they're black." Nah, they're different. Why doesn't he get "real" black girls?" I would hear this from some black girls who dug P, but this is how they felt. He would get even a bigger backlash about this after the film "Under The Cherry Moon" was released. So, there was no way in the world P would have sung "Ice Cream Castles".

Ahhh...my personal faves on that album: "My Drawers" (Ain't nothin' like an ode to gettin' the panties AND KEEPIN' 'EM! LOL!) and "If The Kid Can't Make You Cum Nobody Can" (Especially during the sex dialogue when she asks him "What's my name, baby?" and Morris' crazy ass replies "It's baby, ain't it?" LOL! -- CLASSIC! I STILL use that line to this day! LOL!)

This is probably my least favorite Time song ever. Now that it takes up 15 minutes of their live show I dislike it even more. the lyrics are cool, but instrumentally its just weak for them. Morris doesn't look to happy in the video either(this was right before he quit)

That said they play it all the time on the classic R&B station down here( and every time they do I'm yelling for them to play a better song by the time)

Many of friends and associates started lossing interests in Prince. They wondered why I stick around as fan espcially after the UTCM stunt and wondered if I was offended. Of course, I let them know that since I date interacially the movie doesn't offended just the bad acting was a turn-off despite having a slammin soundtrack.

As for the rest of my sistas in funk that worked w/ P, I think some people may have had issues. But I feel like this, if they can't understand the brand of funk the P was bringing to the table, its their lost. One thing about, I'm glad that I stayed w/him throughout this journey.

BG Baby, Legs has to disagree with ya about this album. Eventhough the lyrics weren't the best, the tracks were slammin. So, I still would label this album as one of my fav and a classic. As for the cut My Drawers, I find the riffs/ beats are slammin and the lyrics are hilarious and done to death in classic Morris style Yees.

I remember seeing a Jesse Johnson interview on BET, he said he hated making that video because all he girls in it were ugly

For me, it's two fold. On one hand, I never had a problem with the lyric's, because every since third grade, I've had girlfriends that were of a different race. That said, on the other hand, as a black artist, I do feel it's important to NOT slight your own race. Dating or being seen with whatever race it may be, that's your right. BUT, just my thought, to "promote" a race or a shade isn't cool and it shows a lot about the performer's state of mind and character.

At the time I thought the album was cool, but looking back at all four Time albums, I see it as the weakest one. I know a lot of people don't like 'Pandemonium' but that album blew my mind with the hard guitar licks from Jesse and the contributions from Jam & Lewis. It's my second favorite Time LP after 'What Time Is It?'.
