"If a Girl Answers, Don't Hang Up"--What did this mean? I'm about 23 or so years late asking this question, but what the hell was Vanity 6 talking about in this song? Pax | |

If a girl answer...don't hang up...just talk about it!
Basically the story goes Vanity wantes to call up Jimmy (perhaps Jamie Starr)...but fears a girl will answer cuz Jimmy's a womanizer. Brenda encourages her to call her man and if a girl answers talk it out. What ensues is that the girl (Prince) and vanity start trash talking each other. Though I did think this was one of the more "obvious" songs that doesn't need interpretation. But there you have it. Christian Zombie Vampires | |

I always thought the Jimmy in the song was maybe suppose to be Jimmy Jam from The Time. yes yes I know him and Vanity were not involved...I just thought they just threw any ol guy's name in there from The Time I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
