Hey all,

Having recently caught a broadcast of the Sign 'o' the Times movie on Starz Channel, the thought occured to me: What ever happened to Cat, the dancer who played Prince's "love interest" in the film??? I don't seem to remember her being part of Prince's entourage outside of the year 1987. What's her story? Is she just one of those so-called "proteges" that dropped off the face of the earth after Prince got tired of her? Just curious...

Cat left the Prince camp in early 1989,right after the "Lovesexy" tour.Months earlier,she and Prince had started work on her solo album.Songs recorded for this project include "A Man Named Jesus","Nine Lives",and "Cat and Mouse".But Cat decided to work with another producer,the same guy who worked with Nenah Cherry.Her planned solo album was titled 'I Am Energy' and in late 1989,the first single called "CatWoman" was released.It bombed and the album never came out.She returned to dancing,and in the early-90s,she was a regular attraction at Prince's Glam Slam nightclub in L.A.However,she pissed Prince off when she made a less-than-flattering remark about Mayte.She hasn't been heard from since.

Thanks 4 the input, DavidEye. These days, it both angers and saddens me when I hear the name, "Mayte." On one hand, when I listen 2 songs like the ones on "Emancipation" Disc Two, I feel sad that Prince lost the love of his life. But then when I spin "Rave" and hear tracks like "Man'o'War" and "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore," it pisses me off to think of what a GOLDDIGGIN' HO Mayte was/is... oh, well; the past is past.

Cat was cool I'd check her album out, if it existed....

I don't understand how people just KNOW Mayte was out for P's money...

Hey come on people....whatever happens between prince and his ladies is his business....we should stop having a go at people we don't even know...surely the music is what it's all about.

How do u KNOW for certain that Prince is the one to blame??? I mean, sure, if Mayte came out and publicly said some of the things P. did to wrong her, then I might change my view. But I never heard her say anything about it. If you have, please tell me.

My comment was simply based on what I've heard in P.'s lyrics. That evidence, along with the fact that her next b/f after Prince "just happened" to be Tommy Lee--another rich rock star--makes me seriously question Mayte's character....

...and Mayte was HOW OLD when she hooked up with Prince? Case closed. Grown ass men should stick to grown women. That is all.

As for Cat...is she still dancing at Strokers? Just kidding. Its Deja Vu.

If his heart was broken, it was probably due to her refusing to do as she was told by him and her getting fed up with his BS and developing a backbone enough to tell him no.

As for Mayte. I"m not gonna sit here and trip that Prince was just completely stupid and let her manipulate him. Prince hasn't been known for wearing his heart on his sleeve. What's so bad about the dance company thing? I've known plenty of men with some money and as soon as they get a girlfriend with some talent (or without any) they want to do something to help her out and vice versa with the women with money and talented guys. That's not manipulation. Prince couldn't have survived financially as long as he have by letting chicks con him out of shit.

I don't think we'll ever know unless one of them ups some info, but bad marriages are two stories and I'm sure both of them contributed to it in one way or another, so I'm not gonna make either one of them out to be a villain.

What I am saying in that Mayte did minipulate him to get what she wanted.

There is nothing wrong with the concept of the NPG Dance Company. However let's be honest Prince would not have embarked on such a project had it not been for some prodding from his then wife Mayte. Look at what happened to the "dance company" project:
1) It opened to mixed reviews; most not so flattering

2) The ticket prices were high so he could recoup the money he was shelling out for the production.

3) It was supposed to tour for three or four months but ended up only doing shows in key cities and then shutting down.

4) She didn't perform in any of the shows. She was the "director" and choreographed a portion of the show.

Then there was the talk of the re-release of her "Child of the Sun" album re-titled as "Scorpio". A single, "Rhythm of Your Heart" was released. She did mini promotion tour overseas after the project got a little hype in Spain. She went on spanish tv shows to promote the album, she was featured on Latina magazine. Then all of a sudden Prince started to talk about moving overseas. He bought a huge house. Where was the house .... Spain.

We all know she subsequently got the house when she and Prince parted ways.

Then she started dating Tommy Lee. All of a sudden we hear talk of him producing tracks and playing on her "Scorpio" album (which still to this day has not been released). Then she moves into Tommy's house ... uninvited. This little scenario is played out on that special he did for VH1 back in the Summer of 2002. Then, in front of millions of viewers, she practically nagged Tommy into proposing to her and buying her a ring.
Then she goes on tour with Tommy's band as a dancer. (Sound familiar?)

Now all of this does not make her a bad person. But for anyone to say she (a young women) does not minipulate some of the (older) men she's with to get what she wants is just people being blind to what her goals were from the get go... to be in show business/a celebrity/a star.

Prince knew full well what he was doing. It wasn't his first time doing it (other than the marriage). She wasn't running a damn thing. She only did what Prince allowed her to do. Everybody makes excuses for him. I call bullshit.

You have a right to believe anything you want, but I chose to look at the situation from all sides. And I think I said Prince's motives clearly were to get her in the sack. And the reason he married her at that time is becuase she was pregnant.

We can agree to disagree on her motives with Prince and Tommy Lee for that matter.

At that time ...yep. I not saying he wouldn't have eventually but back then yeah. And I say this becuase of his long history of getting engaged and then breaking off the engagement when he was ready to move on, or when he got caught fooling around.
