Why? $55 for a 2 disk set of music from an artist who's mostly known for a 20 second guitar solo and a 20 second spot in Purple Rain? Okay, he also co-wrote a few Time tunes, but I already have those. There might be some good stuff on it, but I'm not willing to pay $55 to find out. I thought that was kind steep for the "Hits/B-Sides" and I *knew* that was slamming! Dez figured it out - his stuff is really only of interest to hard-core Prince fanatics and is priced for those "gotta have it" collectors. Not knocking Dez, he should be able to charge whatever he thinks people should pay. But if he thought he could gain an audience (and profit) outside of the hard-core Prince-heads, he'd price his set a little more reasonably. I'm guessing his audience at $15-20 is pretty much the same audience at $55, hence the steep price... [Edited 2/28/05 12:29pm]

Well, I agree that $55 is a tad much.
However, when a CD set is produced in such limited quantities, the production costs are pretty high. And especially with the 50-or-so-page booklet. Yes, he will make a profit on this set, but not that much.

It would be nice to see some of your opinions for those who have listened to the entire CD. Is it good? Is it worth $50.00?
Thanks in advance. | |

Kind of like paying $50 for the Flock of Seagulls box set, once you hear the song you know...then WHAT??? Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Great. It would be nice to hear maybe a few samples on the website. And what is in the 50 page book? Don't get me wrong, I will more than likely buy it. I guess I need a little push. I admit I am dying to hear one song, but I am not willing to pay $50.00 for one song. I know little about what is the rest of the album. Does that make sense? I appreciate the fact that you are doing an interview. Should be cool. Can you ask him about a son he did for a Minneapolis radio station back in 1982 (I believe it was KQRS?). It was a song called "The Beat" is that on this new album? Another quesition, does he plan on releasing any more albums of his older unreleased material? And finally would he ever tour with Prince again if Prince had this crazy idea to reunite the revolution?

If you go over to www.dezdickerson.com and click on "Leave a message" it takes you to his forum. Dez is very active and answers questions on a very regular basis.
I'm still waiting on my set, but have heard of at least 2 people who have defective discs, both cd 1, so I'm hoping it isn't a widespread proble! All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

Oh yeah? Ask him if he remembers a young black cat at the Purple Rain Premire at Manns Chinese in Hollywood. I went up to him when he was seated next to his wife in the theatre. I actually steped on her foot. He asked me if I played guitar and I said "yeah". He signed my silver ticket saying "good luck, Dez". I had on a long navy blue trench coat with studs on one shoulder (ala Controversy) a white ruffled shirt (ala Hendrix) and a white headband (ala Dez). Seriously, ask him if he remembers that. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
