vanity's sex shooter I very recently got to hear this cut.Damn.I really like this version.I like both apples' version and vanity's,but i'll tell you that vanity's vocals are far superior.Too bad we don't have all vanity 6's songs.Vanity's version is even freakier and funkier. A very weird sounding recording, but it is pure early '80's Prince.I love it. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

I didn't realize they had gone so far as to do the song before she left camp. Where did you get to hear it?

I love the Vanity 6 version of "Sex Shooter".Vanity sounds more confident and believable playing the "sex kitten" role than Apollonia did. This version is fantastic! I love the ending when Vanity instructs New York to "count to eight....as soon as I get undressed,y'all clap your hands okay?"

It's on numerous bootlegs. In the spring of 1983,Prince took the girls into the studio and recorded several tracks for a second Vanity 6 album. One of these songs is "Vibrator",which I'm sure you have heard about.Another track is an incomplete instrumental commonly known as "Wet Dream Cousin" (because of it's resemblence to "Wet Dream",a song on their debut album). And finally, there is "Sex Shooter",which is quite different from the Apoolonia 6 version. It's longer, funkier and imo, much better than A6's version.Vanity keeps repeating the line "All the nasty people sing it!" over and over, lol, and much like "Nasty Girl",the song ends with a lively chant-like sequence... Brenda? (Uh huh)...I want you to count to eight (eight) As soon as I get undressed, clap your hands, okay? (okay) Susan? (Uh huh)...I want you to count to eight (eight) As soon as I get undressed, you clap your hands, okay? (okay) New York? (Uh huh!)...I want you to count to eight (eight) As soon as I get undressed,y'all clap your hands okay? (okay) New York? (Uh huh!)...I want you you to count to eight (eight) As soon as I get undressed,y'all clap your hands okay? (okay) She then undresses, and the hands start clapping, lol, and we also hear Prince screaming as the song fades out,an apparent victim of her "love gun"

The song definitely has more punch and conviction to the way she sings it. Funny, it's only an inflection here and there...yet it changes tohe whole song. Also...the song is way in it's demo form...so you don't get any of the 80's sound to it really. Make it hold up better I think. Christian Zombie Vampires

This version is excellent!I would put it on you send it,but I don't want any trouble.I'm now after the A6 version of Manic Monday. Is there a Vanity version of that,as well? Also, has anyone heard Vanity's version of 17 Days?Another song that I want. Funny,as the years pass,I slowly get songs and discs I'm after. It really takes patience ,money, and timing to be a pRince collector. You gotta be prepared when opportunities arise. But I'm always down w/sharing. It's the guitar lick that really makes the Vanity 6 version. Too funky. Keep your headphones on.

No question about it -Vanity's version of Sex Shooter is far better. The track is much funkier and her vocals are sexy. The track though is the star on this version and has Prince rocking one of his fiercest grooves of the early "80's.
Hear it! | |

Glad this is about the song, even though I'm sure Vanity's Sex Shooter is a religious experience.

I've heard the A6 version of Manic Monday; if they'd released it as a single, it would've flopped. The Bangles version is 200 times better (and not just because Susanna Hoffs could actually carry a tune). I will say, though, that you can really tell that it was written for V6/A6 because the backing vocals ("whoa, whoa, whoa") were totally intended for Brenda. And I heard that 17 Days was another that was written specifically for Brenda; listening to the lyrics and overall 'feel', it definitely makes sense that Brenda would've been the lead vocal on it... Just my $0.02.

I've never heard it but I will already say I think it's better. Just listening to Apollonia sing makes me cringe...the girl can't keep a tune, It drives me crazy!!! I'm gonna make you love me...

I love Vanity 6's version but my copy is of horrible quality. It is full of tape hiss. Andy is a four letter word.
