Just wondering what you all think "Purple Rain" would have been like if Vanity had never been fired/quit/removed and played the role as originally intended? Do you think it would have been the same?

It would've been a lot better -- the chemistry between Prince & Vanity would've shone much brighter than between Prince & Apollonia (who was married at the time). Also, would've made it more real since Prince & Vanity actually had something going on. Just my thoughts.

Someone asked the same question one time, and my opinion was that, I wouldn't have it any other way than Apollonia starring in it, I liked her very much, chemistry and all with Prince. If Van blew it, then oh well, I hardly wondered 'what if' every time I see Purple Rain, therefore she did her thing, and ofcourse it would've been different, probably not as good, the chemistry between them too would've been on and off, just like offscreen, just the same on...I guess I just liked Apollonia very much, and wouldn't have it any other way....

I think the movie would have been better with Vanity.I've seen other films with her,and she can actually act.Plus,she and Prince had better chemistry.Apollonia was cool,but she was basically just a "replacement" for the real thing,filling someone else's shoes.Vanity was the real deal.

But if Vanity would have played that part, we would have never had the joy of Appollonia's perfect boobies coming out of the water.

Vanity would have been better than Crappollonia. Not saying Vanity was this great thespian or anything, but she was better than little miss monotone voice Patty Kotero.

And I co-sign on the chemistry thing between her and Prince that others have stated. Hell that one scene in his basement the first time he brings her home and they get it on may have gotten the movie a NC-17 rating.

Would´ve made more sense since Vanitý´s character was supposed to be " Nikki", so the scene with Prince singing it, epecially the "met her in a hotel lobby" line plus Apolonia´s ( or Vanity´s) reaction would´ve been more plausible for the viewer.There are other logical reasons but I can´t be bothered now.

Wait Appolonia was married around the time of Purple Rain how did her husband feel about Prince feeling her up and her riding him and what not?

I personally find apollonia more attractive than Vanity, but I haven't seen vanity on film. either way I don't think it would've drastically improved the movie
