Who has turned down a song by Prince? I know the 80's group the Jet's did(Neon Telephone?) and I think Lisa Stansfield mentioned something about not wanting her career doomed by working with him. Also, James Brown suposedly turned down Chocolate and Possessed.I imagine some of his former associates maybe his family members may have also turned him down in hopes to make a name for themselves outside of Prince.Any others?

There was this one european singer her name escapes me but Prince wrote a song for her and wanted to give it to her but she refused to take it. She said to the press" I'm not making out with that little man for a song!" Or something to that effect. This was back in the eighties I think.

I think that may have been Mica Paris who sang the Prince song If I Love 2Night.

Madonna turned down a Prince song called "By Alien Means".Prince submitted it to her in 1990.
Anita Baker turned down a Prince song called "Hold Me".I think Prince sent it to her in 1990.I'v heard the bootleg version of this song (sung by Prince) and it's a nice song. Joyce Kennedy turned down a Prince song called "Too Rough". Joni Mitchell turned down a song called "Emotional Pump",saying "It's a good song...probably a hit for somebody else". Jesse Johnson turned down the Prince song "Shockadelica" in 1986.Prince knew that Jesse was working on an album with that title, and thought it was odd that he didn't have a song by that title. So he wrote the song himself and offered it to Jesse, who rejected it. Michael Jackson turned down the Prince song "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me".It was offered to MJ in 1986,when he was preparing his 'Bad' album. Robert Palmer turned down a Prince song called "Lust U Always" in 1988. Earth Wind and Fire recorded a Prince song "Super Hero" in 1993,but I heard that Prince actually offered them several other songs, which they apparently turned down.

I remenber reading that blues artist Albert Collins passed on the Prince tune "5 Women". The band Kinsey Report wound up recording it for one of their early 90's albums. I'm pretty sure the album was titled "Crossing Bridges" released in 1993.

Bryant Gumble turned down a song Prince offered for the opening of his HBO show, "Real Sports". I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

That's right! I forgot about these and a few of the other ones listed. Amazing how that "disappointment" turned out for P as well as us! Also,I once heard that P also offered Raspberry Beret to the USA for Africa project but they told him it didn't fit the album's concept. Has anybody else heard the same?

Yeah, I always thought Patrice was somewhat silly for turning those down. P had a hit with the first of course, and then Chaka, whose a much better singer, had a HUGE hit with "I Feel For You". What was Patrice doin in 84? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

What was Patrice doin in 84? Actually,in 1984,Patrice was enjoying a huge hit of her own with "Feels So Real (Won't Let Go)",followed by "Get Off (You Fascinate Me)" but I see what you're getting at.

Prince wrote the song "U" for Paula Abdul, but she turn down another song. I can't remember the title of it though.... "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

I think he also offered her "Don't Say U Love Me",but I'm not entirely sure. U was written in the late 70's and performed by Gayle Chapman....He just threw Paula a bone...which obviously, based on pics of that time, she quickly ate... Space for sale...
