Didn't Cat say something to Prince along the lines of Mayte never has with you what we had on stage? and he stopped talking to her afterwards? Or so rumour has it?

Yes,this really happened,at the LA Glam Slam club in the mid-90s.Prince was there with Mayte.Cat walked up to them and said "I like the two of you dancing together, but you will NEVER havs the same chemistry that we had",or something to that effect.Prince never spoke to her again.

i would have to say Cat. I loved her stage presence with Prince. Their performances were vibrant, full of energy and fun to watch. They worked well together.

Mayte was eye candy, that's all.

Without any doubt Cat, far more personality and energy, Mayte was just boring after having watched her for 10 minutes

Cat was cool and a good dancer, but Mayte gave a romantic feel to the songs and the videos that I've seen, so my fav' would most probably be MAYTE for those reasons.

Hmmm.. in a CAT FIGHT who would win?

Cat could probably whup both Mayte AND Prince..

Geneva could probably pin down Cat and smother her breathless with that lower body of hers.

Lotta hair pullin 4 sure. (time 4 a new thread)

oh yeah it's cat all the way. she was my girl fo'reals. i saw mayte dance with prince at glam slam la and i didn't get that same vibe that dancers give off(like carmen and jamie king and the erotic city dancers) when they perform. cat was all that to me. please don't think im name dropping but i danced for cat during the glam slam la day's the energy of performing with her was awesome even though it didn't really lead to anything great.

did anybody say cat had dance training NO, it was her spirit and energy that was eye catching. you can have all the training in the world, but if you don't have heart it don't count. mayte can't club dance and she can't hip hop. remember what levi said "what about the hip hop baby!" those guys in the band couldn't stand mayte anyway (i wish i could remember some of the jokes they told) but levi was cool with Cat just like the rest of us who voted for her.

Cat was a much better dancer than Mayte. She was extremely funky and energetic. She and Prince had this amazing chemistry onstage together, and since she left,Prince's live shows just haven't been the same.Go back and watch the 'Sign O The Times' concert film,or the 'Lovesexy' concerts.Cat was also an established choreographer, responsible for many of the dance moves in videos by Prince,Madhouse,Sheila E. and others around this period.I miss her tremendously.

that's right y'all Cat was the bomb! there was no way mayte would have been able to pull off the same energy and choreography that cat did in the film and on tour. did y'all know mayte had a choreographer? when i was told that i said what!, you've got to be kidding i could do a better job than that in my sleep. i heard that the guys in the band used to say (about mayte's dancing) "pick up the cup,(during acknoledge me) wave the flag, shake my money maker and swing my hair. i was rolling!

Cat just had a natural raw dance talent. It's not really about training when dancing with someone like Prince. Training doesn't always mean it's better. It's just like musicians. Some of the best that have ever lived were the ones that had no vocal schooling, or music classes. It's been my experience that some of the best musicians I've ever heard couldn't read music. Some people just have IT, and Cat was one of those people.

I sure wish she would make an appearance some place. I wonder where she is.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

as a trained dancer with heart...i just have a problem watching Cat dance...anyone can get onstage & dance the way Cat did..be realisitc...Mayte' may not be a hip hop dancer, but she is more talented as a dancer than Cat! I am not speaking of Choreography..that's another subject..If Cat did the choreography than she should stay a choreographer & stay her sloppy self of the stage..I would never get onstage if I was Prince's dancer & do half the things she did...my main gripe is the chick never pointed her toes when she turned...come on...be funky yes, but damn be neat about it...just my two cents as a dancer with over 20 years experience...I keep having flashbacks of when I was a kid in class hearing my instuctor yell..POINT YOUR TOES, YOU LOOK SLOPPY!!!

LOL, from one trained dancer with heart to another, I totally agree. lol And I agree with you about the un-pointed feet thing. That always made me cringe too.

Muffy

Cat! She was more street, more funky and just well more suited with Prince and Shelia and the whole Lovesexy Vibe. Nothing beats those shows in my opinion. The 3 of them were magic. Mayte was much more of a Romantic and Trained Ballerina type dancer and Stole Prince's heart with her big Booty. I think Prince just really was thinking with his brain in his pants not his head wereas Mayte was concerned. But, I really loved him with her and the music of the Symbol album and Emancipation was the most Phenomenal,Romanticly Stunning music ever. I hate to say it but Mayte really brought TONS of Sex Appeal and Inspired Prince so Incredibly like no Other has done really. The 90's was when Prince Really in my Opinion Created Magic. Those shows were so Electric and so much Theatrics and all.

you know i have this problem with people who are always blasting off about being trained dancers. when you can't afford to take the classes or have the family support, you do what you can. it doesn't matter how many years of training you have it's what you do with what you learned and what happens when your on stage. cat is definitely different from mayte, but just with heart and energy look how far it took her. im a dancer too but i wasn't trained for 20 years and i've done quite well for myself. im not famous but i got to dance with my favorite performer and that's cool with me. i don't EVER put anyone down when it comes to dancing because dancing is about emotion. spike jones dancers won an mtv award for their performance for best choreography, they put alot of heart and soul into that performance and i thought it was cute. i would never flaunt how many years of training i have cause it really doesn't matter. i can't even watch that dance fever show because it takes guts to come on national tv and do what you feel is your best and have some one tell you that you need to keep practicing,it hurts and aren't those people trained dancers too! but in the end cat can tell her kids and grandkids that she danced with prince. i can tell my kids and grandkids i danced with her and that's cool with me.

I am not a trained dancer. And I'm not nor would I ever put anyone down for dancing the way they feel. I just don't like Cat or her style of dance. Dance is emotion expressed through motion. Whether you are trained or not it doesn't matter. Most of the dancers I admire are ones I see at clubs, have there own style, or people who don't follow the "conventional". Cat is just boring to me. She IMO is sloppy, and her moves aren't definite. Just thrashing all over the place. She's got the attitude, sure. But there's more to dance than facial expressions. Cat appears to me more like someone having a seizure than actually dancing So do your thing. shrug To each his own. BTW.. I have a friend in a wheelchair who again [/i]IMO[/I] has more substance, emotion and rhythm than Cat. Just my twocents

Care to dance? dancing jig wink
