I am a HUGE Sheila E. fan and always have been, but there have been rumors floating around for years that she may be gay. I never believed it because she was romantically linked to Prince and her father announced in his club back in the lates 80's/early 90's that she and Prince were getting married. We know that did not happen, but they definitely were in some sort of relationship. It does seem strange that after all these years she is not married or at least with someone. I have NEVER heard about her and any boyfriends. I mean, Apollonia was married, Carmen Elektra is married, the artist formally known as Vanity is married, Jill Jones is married, even Prince is married. What do you guys think?

It was common knowledge in L.A. for years that Sheila is gay... but I think this turns out to be just a showbiz rumor. I asked one of Sheila's colleagues and was told unequivocally, "no."

I have never thought about it until I read this thread but it does sound strange. I've never heard any mention of anyone that she's dated, other than Prince and I still question his sexuality even if he is married. The song lyrics and titles that you guys have brought up are very good points too and I can't believe I didn't catch them myself.

Does it really matter if Sheila E. is gay? People, we admire these artists for their music not their sexuality.

Not that having a gay role model would've changed me much but I think it would've made life a little easier. It may also make a difference in the youth that is questioning their sexuality.

Ultimately I do agree that it's about the music, but you have to admit the persona also comes into effect.

AMEN and BRAVO Miguelgomez! I've always admired Prince for having such a feminine appearance and flaunting it so arrogantly in people's faces. His hard jamming, hard rocking, ass kicking music was the furthest thing from the stereotipcal, limp wristed, classical music listening, ballet dancing, show tunes listening, nerdy images that people like to attach to someone gay or someone that looks gay. His bitchy attitude also made people think twice before messing with him. He was a very strong role model in my life and I don't know how I would have made it without him. Whether he's gay or not, my hat's off to him for not giving a damn if you thought he was gay.

I've always wondered about Prince and now that I've read this thread, I'm starting to wonder about Sheila. It's not to down them by no means, it's to admire them.
