Sheila E Cancels Mpls Concert I don't have a website for info but I just heard today on a local station here in MPLS that Sheila E cancelled her upcoming concert at the Quest because she is replacing John Blackwell on the rest of the Musicology tour. She was scheduled to come to the Quest on July 26 I believe and it has been removed from their schedule. Also if you go on ticketmaster.com all her shows have been cancelled....too bad I was planning on seeing her but good that John B is getting some, I am sure, much needed time away to be with his family after all that has happened to him.

Not that it makes any difference now, but I thought her concert at the Quest was on August 1? I'd been planning to go to that show so I'm sorry to hear she won't now be performing there, but I can definitely understand why John needs this time for himself and his family, so it's good Sheila is able to fill in for him.

We'll have to wait until later tonight to see what happened at the first of the Allstate Arena shows here in Chicago. I'll be headed to tonight's afterparty, so hopefully I can get the straight poop there. As much as I love me some Sheila, I really hope this news isn't true...I'm amazed by Mr. Blackwell's playing, but of course it goes without saying that the man needs all the time he can to cope with his loss.

yeah, that's what I thought. I am glad that Mr. Blackwell can have a break from his work. And although his awesome dynamic will be missed , I think that it will be a big treat for everyone to see Sheila rock this show!!! I'm divided like Peter Parker and Spider-Man on this one. I think John Blackwell is the best drummer Prince has ever had. Before that, I would have said Sheila E, but Blackwell, in my opinion, can't be matched. He reminds me of those big things in the Lord of the Rings trilogy that hit those war drums as they march along with the goblins and orcs. He is relentless. His drumming is so powerful and energetic, it had me nearly as excited as Prince's guitar playing. On the other side, he probably does need time with his family. If anything, his wife needs him. It would be horrible to lose a child and have a husband on the road. They need to be together, and Sheila E. knows how to drum. I dunno. At risk of sounding selfish; I'm just glad I got to see Prince in Mpls. with Blackwell drumming his ass off! Luv & Peace, Alex The ONLY Catwoman review w/ Prince!

David im waiting too Sheila is scheduled 2 perform at a club her dad has just taken over in San Jose called "Pete Escovedo's Latin Jazz Club". She's scheduled 2 performt there twice 2morrow night (Fri), one show Sat. and one Sun. night. Oops - that's 4 shows! Tix are only $20 in advance, $25 at the door. No reserved seating. U can only purchase tix at the box office or call them by phone 4 now, there is no website set up yet. Or possibly by phone @ Ticketmaster. I called the box office Monday night way past closing time but the woman on the phone was nice enough 2 still offer 2 sell me tix but I didn't have a head count yet so I said I'd call back. Gonna check 2morrow morning! I went online 2day and saw all the other cancelled shows - hopefully this is not the case 4 this weekend FYI, 2night was opening night at the club - a band called Kool Katz - but I didn't get 2 go - was stuck at home working!

I thought this might happen! I must be telepathic! or is that tele-pathetic?
anyway, I'm sure she will be an excellent replacement! P must have offered her a hefty murph drag to get her to cancel her own tour!!! maybe this will push P into changing the set list a bit! Shut up already.. "bleep"!

It figures that the 1st time i get off my lazy bum and get tix to see Sheila E on a solo tour, it gets canceled. Oh well, I'm glad she's such a perfect option so P may continue his tour and and John can take the time he needs to grieve and heal.

Triple ditto. I am going to see Prince in Detroit on July 31st. I will definitely miss not seeing John play at this gig, but I'm excited to see Sheila! Should be an excellent show. I'm glad that John is taking time off the tour to be with his wife at this very sad time. I was wondering how he would hold up with what happened and with being so far away from his wife and family. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

just remember, this isn't a confirmed thing, and john blackwell is currently playing w/ the NPG in chicago this week. still and all, sheila has cancelled all the rest of her solo tour dates...but it could be for completely unrelated reasons.

Bummer! I was looking forward to this. Completely understandable if replacing Blackwell is the case...but still too bad.

It's unfortunate circumstances, but I'm excited to see Sheila joining the tour, if that truly is the case. Particularly since I've already seen the tour with John Blackwell, it'll be an interesting comparison. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I was in San Jose for the first time in June (actually the first time I've been back to Cali since I was born in San Diego 40+ yrs ago) and while we were lost & looking for our hotel, I remember seeing a sign for Pete Escovedo's Latin Jazz Club. But there was no info on the opening date. Had no way of remembering where it was since we were majorly lost & it was going on 8 hrs without food for me... it's very ugly when your blood sugar drops very very low, but thankfully no trip to the hospital as a result. Hope the club lives up to expectations!

Some have sent me orgnotes asking me if this is really true...in response as I say I have not seen anything official but it was announced on Mix 104.1 FM here locally in MPLS last week. I would say check Sheila E's website for more info or for any info from those attending upcoming Musicology dates.

I just saw this morning on Sheila E's website: Due to scheduling issues the following dates will be postponed until the fall of 2004 July 28, 2004 Columbia, MO - The Blue Note July 29, 2004 Chicago, IL - House of Blues July 30, 2004 Milwaukee, WI - Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom August 1, 2004 Minneapolis, MN - The Quest Don't know if this was already posted but she is saying it is scheduling conflicts so maybe it is something completely unrelated to John B/Musicology or maybe she is just going to fill in for him on a temp basis.
