And of course now we get the inevitable cherry-picking quotes from an entire post. lol

You are correct. I AM trying to put a stop to the excessive clowning in P&R and I'm not denying it. You, on the other hand want to pick and choose who gets clowned and who doesn't and you mad because I spoke to you about it.

As far as subjects or people I don't agree with. Please show me any thread where I have lingered on the thread to derail it or followed any member around just to ridicule them....I'll wait.

Ok so at least we have managed to have you walk this way back. The the tittle of the thread should now read something like quit clownig on the threads i say.

I have no beef with you or the desire to go back and forth on this, just wanted to have my say on the matter.

There was no need to go back and forth in the first place. I haven't walked back anything and stand by everything I said in the OP. Next time try reading what I actually wrote instead of trying to clown me by interjecting your own interpretation onto it.

I honestly have zero problem with people having their say. I simply do not think it's right to ignore the views of several people on this thread and threads before this one that speak to the same problem.

Until such time as there are enough active moderators to allow someone to moderate P&R full time....it cannot be done effectively on a part time basis.

As I have said before, there are only four active mods even though several more are listed. This is not a criticism of those people by any means, because they cannot be everywhere. They have too much on their plate.

Given the contentious nature of that forum and the absence of restraint at times, it has turned into a free-for-all where people no longer debate ideas in a rational, truthful manner.

Most threads in P&R do not stay on topic past the first three or four replies and there are threads there now that have nothing to do with politics or religion....they are just regular news items.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a heated debate but when it turns into bullying, lying, trolling, and baiting just to grandstand for attention, there's no way a decent discussion can take place.

Mach was the last person who was able to be present enough to effectively moderate that forum and my suggestion is that until someone else is able to commit the same amount of time, it should be shut down.

My two cents.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

The clowning is usually the thread itself. I merely point it out. It is not towards anyone in particular, just the topics that are ripe for mockery. And Gray's are usually the one's right up there.
"The PR Forum needs to close" is what you wrote, then walked it all back, which is cool.

Does it say permanently? I'm gonna keep pointing that out whether you like it or not.

The P&R forum needs to close until such time as there are enough active moderators to allow someone to moderate P&R full time.

Don't pretend not to see the rest of the sentence in the OP.

Not towards anyone in particular? Why is it okay to mock gray, but not only? Why not mock furry every time he mentions NWO if you have a problem with conspiracies? What's the real reason you choose to mock one person and not another?

That is one of the problems when one begins to think that excessive mockery is okay....the other problem is shitting on a thread that others might actually be interested in reading and discussing.

But thanks for admitting that you troll his threads with the sole purpose of mockery. Isn't there's a rule against that?

Nonsense, these are threads that interest me and others that post on them, and I post my own thoughts on them. And me as well as others have tried to discuss them with Gray as the OP but we all we get is an "aw lard" or any other silly responce to avoid disscussion when the opinion is contrary. It would be nice for him to defend his positions when taken to task instead of calling people trolls becasue he cant.

Interest? That's an odd choice of word. Telling him that he belongs in a mental hospital is showing interest and attempting to engage him in discussion?

As I recall on one particular thread where he posted a questionable link and you guys pounced, I and others actually posted several very credible links on the same topic which strangely enough, were barely acknowledged.

So tell me again what your interest in the topic was?

Again, I have zero problem with you or anybody confronting gray. I am talking about the excessive nature of the mockery and the exclusivity to the extent that the vitriol is reserved for a particular individual including following them from thread to thread with drama.

The exact same way you once complained about the way people were treating Onlyndausa.

By all means, disagree with him all you want and tell him so. Must you take shots every time though? When you take a thread off topic with a bunch of mockery you are forgetting that others might want to chime in. If the thread gets derailed with excessive clowning and ridicule it gets turned into a free for all. As you have read above, it discourages other people from participating in P&R.

You don't take shots at furry...or only....

Is he really the only one in P&R that you disagree with to such an extreme degree?

I treat everyone equally. I engage everyone the same way, they just respond diffrently. They back up their ideas and respond in kind.

But anyway, we got to the bottom of this, you walked everything back, made your point. Cool.

No walking back has been done despite your repeated attempts to spin what is being said. Dishonesty is also part of the problem. I still believe that P&R should close until there is a full time moderator and I listed the reasons why.

The problem has been spoken about several times by several others even on this thread, despite your disingenous attempts at diversion.

People have mentioned having similar issues in other forums too. Not even counting the threads in site discussion that have been deleted.

http://prince.org/msg/3/403430

http://prince.org/msg/3/397627

http://prince.org/msg/3/394632

http://prince.org/msg/3/394064

http://prince.org/msg/3/390104

The only thing different is my suggestion to close it until we have a full time mod for P&R but keep trying to pretend otherwise.

This forum is called site discussion, but apparently if you feel something is amiss, you're not supposed to mention it. The amount of acting out was getting excessive in P&R but let's just shoot the messenger. The irony is that it isn't the mods who are having such a problem with this thread.

I guess my next suggestion should be to close site discussion? What's the point?

I had a similar issue at work so I shouldn't be surprised. Management would get pissed at me for pointing out the excessive amount of errors happening instead of improving training for new workers.

These are people dealing with official gov't documents that affect people's lives, mind you. But nobody wanted to hear about it.

These are people dealing with official gov't documents that affect people's lives, mind you. But nobody wanted to hear about it.

The org is just showing the same symptoms that the internet in general is suffering from. It is becoming an extremely ugly place in many parts. People seem to be displaying a side of themselves that they wouldnt dare in the real world. Perhaps all those that were bullied in real life are getting their own back from the safety of their bedroom/study/living room. Its as if many people have become so brave and outspoken that they feel they cannot be touched by anyone when it comes to their superiorority. They know everything, can say what they want and are never wrong. They insult others and feel justified because of their superior standing in the digital world. Many of these people have poor social lives in the real world and actually consider their digital world as the real world. In the digital sphere they feel king.

The truth is, most are cowards. What they say and how they act on the org is simply acted out by their alter ego which, in their minds is some kind of super hero, untouchable and always justified. In the real world they are scared to voice their opinions, have poor social skills and run scared the second you point a finger at them and challenge their opinion.

Twitter is overflowing with these kinds of people and if you do a lot of surfing around message boards and blog comments you will see it is rife their too. The only places where it is kept at bay are those that are heavily moderated.

It just seems that some people think that normal rules of social etiquette do not apply online and insulting others is acceptable. Just as it is rude to interupt someone who is speaking, it is also rude to hijack a conversation on a message board because you want all of the attention. In real life you would just shun someone like that out of the conversation but online when they think their opinion needs to be banged on about constantly, it just becomes impossible.

these people are cowards. They are socially immature and they have nothing better to do than to stroke their ego the only way they know how - anonymously online where no one can physically shout at them and make them cry. They have no elasticity where their opinions are concerned and they are not open to new ideas. Rather than accept being wrong about something they will insult their way out of it. And some people just do it for fun because they do not get laid and need something else to get their rocks off to.

It is ugly and is getting worse. The internet is probably mankinds greatest invention. But is also our ugliest. It needs a legal framework to police it just as we have in the real world. But as of yet, no one has figured out how to do it. But when they do, these trolls and down rigfht nasty people will be treated like the criminals they are and balance will be brought to the situation...... hopefully.

In the meantime, the org needs better moderation with better functionality provided by the site. Instead of snipping innappropriate comments, that user should be banned from the thread, not the site in general, just that particular thread. Likewise when someone is deemed to be hijacking the thread, they are banned from it. Conversations should just be allowed to flow according to the topic of the OP. Going off on tangents are part and parcel of conversation, but start another thread to keep that part of the conversation going, dont let it take over the original thread.

Whilst I am as guilty as the next person, bad language should be stopped. I use bad language all the time in real life. But in real life you can see who is listening to you and what language is acceptable depending on the company you are in. If there are kids in earshot or my parents are involved in the conversation, my language is clean. In an org thread we have no idea what company we are in. We have no idea who is reading the thread. Also, we all come from different parts of the world where language is not interpretted the same way. And it isnt always easy to convey the intent behind a comment when it is written down. So many misunderstandings arise because the written word has been misinterpreted or someone with a different grasp of the English language got the wrong end of the stick.

If my daughter ever wanted to take up an interest in Prince, would I let her read the org? Absolutely not! This is not a site suitable for kids in any shape or form. Is it any wonder Prince cant get new young fans if this is the state of his current fan base?

Anyway, whatever.... it is what it is. The org is a pretty dire place these days and it is very unlikely to change.

I agree with every word.

FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Overall a good post,

But to blame Prince not getting new young fans(which he does) based on the Org is like totally warped.

People don't join fan sites to become fans.

If Prince isn't getting new fans it's because of Prince's promo issues and resistance to let his videos and many of his album be found/bought.

It's a shame that we cannot play Prince videos on the Org. nor even snippets of his released songs.

I agree, a silly exageration at the end of my rant.

But the org is the only fan forum Prince has [left] and should really be a better beacon of civility than it currently is. It really should be more grown up considering the average age of us members. And it can be done without being a sycophantic ass kissing forum like the NPGMC chat rooms were.

Regarding the playing of videos and snippets on the org, it could be possible. The org now has its membership base. I doubt there are many new signups these days. The org could go completely underground. Invite only (invite current membership base) and no prying eyes could get in. A bit like, say, a bootleg site would have to do to remain safe. Im sure if the org did that Prince would be left scratching his head, wondering where all his fans had gone. wink

I think if the Org was a paid member site, a lot of that crazy-messs might be cut down

Like you said cyberspace attracts all kinds

.

Idk, maybe I'll work out a letter to the Prince team on why a fan site should be allowed to show his videos. Or at least some of them

Excellent analysis and insight. I agree that it has become a widespread problem online in general. Furthermore, I suspect you're correct that change is unlikely, but I appreciate not being made to feel like I've committed some offense simply by raising these issues.

I'm also grateful that you offered some suggestions about how to resolve the problems. cool

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I agree totally, because that's exactly my point.

The cry alone for more and better moderation is proof that the org consists of a lot of immature individuals that need "baby sitting".

If we would all grow up and appreciate the value of following the rules, then there wouldn't be a need for more moderation.

It's a sympathic idea. But that wouldn't solve the problems of trolls, who would just use a different user-acount to keep on trolling the thread.

We have moderators and if you think something needs moderation, report it. The mods will address it, I promise you.

It's not right or fair to expect mods to read every post and self-moderate everything, with the exception of removing stuff that violates the agreement with Prince (Prince videos, etc.). That's why there is a "Report post to moderator" button. Reporting a post sets the moderation process in action.

If you feel someone is violating the rules, report them. Either the mod will agree with you and will deal with the violator accordingly, or they will disagree that a rules violation has occurred and explain why they feel that way.

This is still a thing? lol

Well I'd be curious to hear, from everyone not just mods, has P&R gotten better since this thread began? Has it gotten worse? Or is it the same?

Personally, I have no complaints. Regardless of sometimes differing viewpoints, I think everyone has been cool. Maybe there's been a lot of moderating and reporting that I'm not aware of, but the end result is positive IMO.
