why do inner-org links not work?

i swear, i am so versed in ginuwine's opinion of prince.

because everytime i try to link within the org to another topic, it goes to that same damn thread. that thing must have over 500,000 views by now.

it's a really weird org glitch

1. This question has been posed dozens of times with no answer.

2. luv4u recommends just using the url /url hashtags (which works) with the links in the middle. It is a very crude workaround though, and this has been an issue for YEARS and YEARS with no resolution other than to use those stupid hashtags.

3. I think of our links like a box of chocolates. You're never going to know what you'll get, and that's part of the charm. One minute I think I'm clicking a link to Prince's 3rdeyegirl website, and the next I'm reading about Carmen Electra giving Dennis Rodman a blowjob.

  1. This question has been answered many times, so your claim is false, other mods and I have responded to those that ask. Folks post asking and an answer on 'how to' has been given.
  2. The [ url ] [ /url ] is how it's done. Heck I use this when redirecting to another thread or list of threads. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. It's Ben's site, that how he set it up.

NO, it's not.

And, no it ISN'T done this way. It was NEVER done this way before the interface 'enhancements' a few years ago. This is why you keep seeing these threads and claiming that you've adequately answered this "dozens of times."

We usd to just post the url and the underlying site logic would handle it.

Also, if you highlight the link, the most intuitive thing ALL USERS on this site will do is click the "link" icon at the top of the edit window, which then tells them "insert/edit link", which gives them a dialogue box to do it from. People are doing this BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THE INTERFACE and IS THE MOST LOGICAL, INTUITIVE thing to follow. It is NOT their fault the site leads them to do this, but the URLs don't work when they do it that way.

Here's something you should try. Just type a URL in an orgnote or your signature without the hashtags---voila! The urls work. THAT is the way folks used to do it.

The url /url hashtags were NEVER largely used by people which is why you keep seeing these kinds of threads.

The point is, it NEEDS TO BE FIXED, and this bandaid is NOT working--people are still confused by it.

It's become the new "search function" issue of the org.

Why don't you take a poll and see how many people actually use the url /url hashtags since this has been answered so many, many times and my claims are false?

.

I'm almost begging at this point.

Can we please get some input from another moderator about asking Ben if he can resolve this problem?

After a bit of head-scratching and debugging, I think the internal-link thing is fixed... at least for my limited testing it is, anyhow. If you use the normal HTML WYSIWYG editor, it should do the right thing and let you just put links without any special markup, such as http://google.com and have it automatically link them. Even internal links like http://prince.org/msg/3/370541 should work now, I believe. I didn't test this extensively, so please let me know if you find weirdness... but hopefully this makes everyone's life a little easier!

(oh doh, I found a small bug... fixing... looks OK now!)

YAY.

1. an acknolwedgement of the problem

2. a resolution

3. a message

This is why the org will outlast 3rdeyegirl ( ok, there's far more reasons why the other site will fail, but still)

Cheers Ben and mods for fixing the linking matter. What seems to malfunction now is that text spaces disappear after a post has been typed (for example: some of those spaces between text blocks/parts) or if summed-up lists of names, songs, titles, etc are posted. The end result looks like one jumbled text block. I already tried to update a text in another topic, but the lack of text spaces stay the same after editing. If this malfunction can be looked into, than that would be great! Thanks in advance.

As example, here below a post which I had not typed without the spaces as how it now appears:

^^ I was surprised to learn that George isn't too fond of "Funk It (Funkadelala)",which he described as a P-Funk/Bootsy rip-off.I like the song. lol

Yeah lol, George doesn't seem at all to contribute on "Funkadelala"

A1 Funk It (Funkadelala)
Arranged By [Horn Arrangement] – David DiggsBacking Vocals – James Ingram, Jim Gilstrap, Louis Johnson, Valerie JohnsonDrums – John Robinson (2)Guitar – Louis JohnsonLead Vocals – Louis JohnsonPercussion – Paulinho DaCosta*Piano [Acoustic Piano] – Raymond CrossleySynthesizer [Bass Synthesizer] – Louis JohnsonSynthesizer [Synthesizers] – Greg PhillinganesWritten-By –Louis Johnson, Valerie Johnson

Brothers Johnson, The* - ...at Discogs

He sings lead and background on "Welcome To The Club", but as with "Funkadelala" a composition by Louis and Valerie Johnson. Louis isn't performing on any of George's songs.

Speaking of P-Funk, did you hear Louis' story in that interview link, which I posted earlier? About how he was recording for the Brothers' "Look Out.." album, and during a break, he hooked up with Clinton's crew in a near studio room, singing background along with Chaka Khan and a whole bunch of others on the original recording session of "Mothersip Connection" cool ? Bootsy was there too, and he asked Louis if Thunder Thumbs could show some of his slapping skills. Right after those jams, Louis was still on a high of "hearing that noise with him and the boys" and it inspired him to record the bass and guitar parts for "Get The Funk...". That is indeed a track which he laid down on tape after being hipped to a P-Funk groove. "Funkadelala" is a jam on it's own right imho, even if there might be some P-Funkish moments here and there cool .
