Music: Non-Prince stickies
Is it time to retire a few of the stickies there? There are too many, to the point where they take up half of the first page of that forum. Robin Gibb, Dick Clark, and Madonna are especially seeming like old news. And much respect to Belita Woods, but an R.I.P. sticky that only garners 5 posts seems a little like overkill. Also not sure why that "REISSUE SERIES" thread is a sticky at all. It's not really the kind of topic that we're trying to cut down the number of threads, is it?
Too much clutter at the top of the page.

Was just talking about this with someone via orgnote.
R.I.P. to Chuck Brown and all, but does it really have to be a sticky too? It's only two pages. Stickies should be preserved for threads that will go on for a long time and have garnered a significant amount of posts.

I agree. Donna Summer is the only thread that is still very active.

But musical artists keep dropping like flies
I was thinking of making a RIP sticky with all those thread links in it........ just a thought Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Not likely.
Besides after 2 or 3 weeks those stickies get unstuck. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

How about you telling musical artists to quit dying and those that request a RIP sticky for their thread not to request it in the first place?? Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! I like that one. Every time an album reissue is announced with extra tracks, DVD, etc., it can be placed in there.

to be hidden away so that the least number of people on this site possible don't see the news? doesn't make sense to me. stickies are topic-killers, especially for such a wide-ranging topic. might as well post it in fan gatherings or org artist community, for all the people that are going to look in a reissues sticky for news about them.

The number of albums being reissued these days, it's better to combine the announcements into a sticky than cluttering the non-prince forum with separate threads. And people are posting, viewing and commenting on that thread almost every day so I don't know why you are saying the least number of people are looking there. [Edited 5/23/12 11:00am]

A lot of people ignore stickies.. there was a thread a few months ago about it.. http://prince.org/msg/3/374576.

Well obviously not enough people are ignoring stickies if this thread was started.

I don't see different album reissues being released as being sticky fodder. If there are 15 threads on the SAME album(s) being reissued, then sure, like say when it was announced that the Beatles albums were being remastered.
It seems to me that the Non-Prince forum could use a few more threads about album re-issues and re-masters, rather than the usual bullshit that's being posted there, rather than trying to limit the number of threads dedicated to that subject.
That's not really the kind of thread we're trying to cut down on around here, is it? I'd much prefer a "post random youtube videos about bullshit like Tome Wopat or the Dr. Pepper jingle" sticky, rather than cutting down on the number of threads that actually inform or cause some real conversation about music.

I don't think a reissue about an old Kashif album is going to start any real conversation about music. The sticky is a good place for it.

Yeah the stickies are a little too much right now.
