If You Lock A Thread And Direct People To Another Locked Thread---It's Time To Resign Your Mod Badge Just saying...
http://prince.org/msg/8/375565
(or http://prince.org/msg/8/375565
copy and paste since the link is sending people to a roger sanchez thread or something like that--the only reason I am keeping that link live is cause someone got snarky with me for posting a link that wasn't active. It wasn't a mod who did that cause mods know that links to threads don't work here---right mods? )

also doctoring evidence on moderation issues ought to get you stripped of that mod badge, don't you think?
yeah, I said it.

I know I'm kinda teasing with the title of this thread and what not but there are only a couple times a year that a huge audience gets together collectively and "chats" about something on this site. You got, the debut of a new Prince album/song, The Grammy's (sometimes), the Superbowl, the Oscars and when someone of importance to music lovers dies.
Within the past twelve months, when something major happens that draws everyone to this site, there is always one moderator who ends up either locking a thread or hiding it to clean it up and by the time the error gets fixed (and usually its because we all have to private message another mod who then has to beg for action)--well, the moment is gone.
This happened with Teena Marie died, the Clare Fischer thread and now the Superbowl. And those are just three that I thought of at the top of my head. Come on, what do we have to do to get someone to acknowledge what we all already know? Something is broken in the system... Space for sale...

Like how the hell you gonna tell us to comment on something that's locked? [Edited 2/5/12 22:02pm]

we haven't always had the best org relationship, but I'm totally with you on this moderation issue.

The constant locking of any threads that have any reference to MJ is getting old too. I'd understand if it's about the same topic, but it never seems to be. It's just blatant conversation killing IMO. A forum is built on conversation. That's the ENTIRE point of it. Let it flow! Simple common sense should apply. Yeah I'm tired of the sticky too.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
even orgnoted her about it, suggesting she open up the newer one and make it the sticky. no response.
then reported it to a moderator (whoever that might be), no response.
as usual. | |

I didn't get no response either. What kind of fools do they think we are?

While I appreciate humor I'm not sure if it's appropriate to have the first response from a mod be dismissive in nature.
Yes, we all know moderating on this site is a thankless job and yes we all understand this site is a free service and that mods are not paid a cent but is that really justification in f*cking shit up? Repeatedly?
And here's the deal, there used to be a time when people's concerns could be productively addressed within this forum. Not anymore...Why? Because 1) Mods don't take the time to take people's comments serious and/or 2) Things just get ignored or 3) Someone's concerns will end up being locked or the thread hidden. Why is that?
Why is it that people have created "org" Facebook pages/communuties instead of posting on the org? Why is it these pages repeatedly reference this certain mods repeated actions and his/her behavior as a reason why they no longer visit this site? And why is it we all know this but the issue is never addressed?
Look, I know it would be easy for me just to ignore the problems like everyone else does now...they just gripe about it on FB or other sites and visit this place less and less but, hey, I still enjoy this place. It's still escapism for me for a few minutes at a time---from work, life or what not. So I'm nicely asking here. Can we have a mod response that at least half attempts to take our concerns serious? In the Site Discussion Forum? Actually, this topic came up a long arse time ago and everyone kind of agreed that this was the one forum where mod's shouldn't use humor since it can be perceived as rude. (Note: not saying you have to follow the precedent or anything...just referencing how others handled similar situations.) [Edited 2/6/12 8:27am] Space for sale...

O
I don't think we can use humor anywhere

We can have fun but, we have to look at things objectively and have to put personal feelings aside when moderation is needed on this or that subject. I'm new and still learning the ropes. I just wish things weren't so 'in your face' about this or that. People can really 'go in' on one another and I sit back and I'm like 'whoa' ... 'really' ... 'they just said that ???' ...
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

You're not getting this, are you? It ain't about HUMOR mayne. It's about trying to make sure this board don't always fuck up every time you get on there. It's not always about "fun".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hmm didn't know you was a mod...
Well I'll put it to you like this: when you say something and it takes hours for some to respond, how do you think that makes a "regular user" feel? Feel like they're being abandoned or something. It shouldn't have to be that serious but I guess in some matters it does. Especially in this case. You do understand people get ANIMATED here when shit hits the fan?

It is obvious the owner of the website is happy with the moderation team. An ex moderator voicing again against a moderator could come across as vindictive and bitter. The moderating team have a difficult job you can not be liked by all, the new moderators will find this out sooner or later. It is a tough job as no mater what you do you will never please all... Back to my cup of tea Awaits the flame fest...

I wouldn't mind if it didn't seem they did appear to be NOT ONLINE. I won't flame no one. I'm just saying though.

Oh man cry me a river with this boo hoo-ing of mods not being liked, hardest job ever, no credit, their time shit. They ask to be one. They WANT to be one.
The major thing that sucks is once a member become a mod you see them change after a while "Climb in my fur."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I've noticed that. It's like once someone does become a mod, they don't react to you the same way as they would if they were just a regular member. I don't know what it is about becoming a mod that suddenly you react differently. I thought it was just me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How so? I've sited examples of the problems we've experienced. Can you please share examples where I am spewing rhetoric without using examples just to be vindictive and bitter?
And why the hell would I be bitter? I resigned as a mod on my own---and how many years ago? I've stayed fairly quit about how poorly certain mods actions are because I know how my comments could be misconstrued but we are talking---what? Seven years now since I stopped being a mod? It's silly to think that my motives are anything but trying to stop the repeated actions that make this place less fun--less fun for everyone.
And, let's not even bring up Ben cause we all know he is not paying attention to the moderation of this site. And none of the other mods dare speak up against this one mod because the don't want to ruffle his/her feathers....so the same stupid crap keeps happening. Can't we all productively find a solution to this mess--without it turning into war? [Edited 2/6/12 12:54pm] Space for sale...

I understand that staunch and sometimes harsh decisions have to be made whicih could change relationship dynamics. That's a given and expected. But some folks little by little begin to TRIP. "Climb in my fur."

The major thing that sucks is once a member become a mod you see them change after a while :river: It can suck when people change but you kinda expect it as being a mod you got to attempt to sit on fence and not be close to one side or the other or you risk getting acused of taking sides. It's much easier being a mod when no one knows who you are. When you do know people you can become rather torn.

I just wish the posters and mods can work side by side but it seemed as if we're separated for some reason. That's why people have reacted the way they have, they feel there's no other choice but to lash out.
