Perhaps there is an easier way. It has been suggested by others (I forget who) that perhaps the forum should be separated in to two sub forums... something like "Prince - The Man" and "Prince - The Music". I thought this was a great idea.
That way people who want to talk about things like track lists, alterative mixes, concerts, recording eras, rare pressings etc can do so in the "Music Forum"... hopefully this would include helpful FAQs for collectors and the like (sort of like a mini HQ forum). And, of course, those that want to talk about what his hair looks like or if he is a prophet or what he is doing @ this moment or who he is suing/getting sued by can do it in "The Man" forum. As someone who cares primary about the "music" side of things, I would love this myself. Just have the rules clearly defined as to the subject matter appropriate for both sub form and tweak as time goes on to get it right. I know this doesn't solve every problem, but it may at least keep certain threads more cogent and focused (and allow the good ones to get more visablitly), and prevent forumers from tripping over each other when they trying to wade through what's important to them. Once we deal with the reality of that situation, we can begin to separate the subjects in to different forums. I've lurked every now and then in the last 5 months but part of why I left was that I found that I was starting to lose the balance that I had when I started out on this site in 1999. There's been so much negativity not just aimed at Prince but aimed at Prince fans who didn't have any problems with Prince's current music, I felt that I had to be a part of trying to calm it down but I realized that there's no use in that. The overlyposititive fans are just as scary too and that was beginning to bug me more and more. One thing I've learned from being away is that I have to be me on the site, whether one thinks I'm a "fam" (I hate that word) or not. I don't like everything he does, (Purple and Gold is a travesty) but I won't be ashamed to say I like MPLSound either. I also have to except what others have to say too, as long as it's not directed at me. Respect for others here seems to be at an all time low but I don't have to be disrespectful. I wish there was a place for balanced Prince fans too cause I think it would be more fun and there would be much better discussions on Prince and his music but I don't think that will ever happen. The nutjobs on both sides will find the place and put there silly shit on there there too. Before you know it, you'll have prince.org part 2 and God knowns we don't need that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

The best way to counter polarization is for the center to hold. Plus, "sane, level-headed" by whose measure? That's part of the problem--all this labeling of others and of self. Does the quality of some of these discussions on here have room to grow? YES. But who's going to do it if not you, me, us? The best way to drown out noise, is to turn up the sound of your own stereo. Eventually people will go where the music (discussion) is best. I don't see anything here preventing this place from being that, except for (maybe) the hesitation of some to turn up their stereo. I can go on all day lol, why cant we all just get along?

And on the other you have "fans" negatively obsessing over every move the man makes as if he fucked their mother or something... I remember making a post about how this place was becoming a FAMMY vs. Bitching civil war with no room for the moderate Prince fans to just come and chill and talk/debate about the music instead of going back and forth about baby videos and such....
