When (if ever) did prince.org "jumped the sharks"?!?

Without hijacking Cborgman's thread concerning the "good ole days", I figured a new thread like THIS is needed so all of the long time orgers can nicely explain to me what year and/or what moment did the org started to "jumped the sharks".

IMHO, I think the org "jumped the sharks" when some people resigned their membership because of nearly all of the controversies within P&R.

Or maybe it "jumped the sharks" after Prince entering the R&R Hall Of Fame and I never notice it. Who knows!
lol

I miss the presence of each and everyone who got banned here for no apparent reason, at least in my opinion. It´s a grown folks forum and I see absolutely no need to ban people here, even those I strongly disagree with.
I couldn´t care less about the clique-thing that some people used to have back in the days, what I miss is some diversity, some good laughs, some bizarre folks ( Zelaira etc.), and people like JustinUK1972/BinaryJustin, who would always create highly entertaining, very informative or even deeply personal threads. That´s what I miss.

Then again, the org, like most things in life, is what you make of it.

Life´s what you make it there´s no room service,
it´s all up to me and you. (Prince 1986?)

Certain moderators would end a thread, and their deicisions were so personal, narrow minded, and spastic that it was seemed childish and stifling in many cases making the org an unpleasant experience. You then had a lot of fun people on here, leaving. Fading away.

But's that's how it is with any organization, gov't, social group.... right?

The closure of NPGMC and Facebook.

Fambots had nowhere else to go, bless their little hearts. And people got all snobby thinking Facebook was some elevated form of entertainment jumping off this purple ship in the process mad

I'm a diehard though (figuratively!) lol

The economy.

At one time the economies of the world were much better, people had more expendable money (or credit lol ), and as a result, were more free to embark on meeting up with each other.

If you dig through some of the old thread, most of those "outstanding" displays of humor were little more than inside jokes thrown back and forth between people who met each other and formed bonds.

The org is little different than it was before. The mods are more heavy handed now, I agree. And they lock threads because they find some threads offensive (the mods of old were much more likely to let a thread that offended them live on despite disliking it's content). But that's not the reason for this perceived 'lull' in the org.

Also, the influx of npgmc and quakers to the org has changed the independent 'feel' of the place. General Discussion orgers now have to put up with wayward and annoying ass posts from Famginas on a more frequent basis.

Lastly, the threads aren't any more repetitious than they used to be, but they are certainly less creative.

We used to have 'dream' threads by orgers who would post interpreted dreams, Mach more frequently posted 'card' threads, Gold319 would give us spirited social commentaries on England. And the list goes on and on.

Now it's basically photowhore your sphincter threads. lol

But, meh... It's as entertaining as you make it.

Oh wait, one more thing, and I'm being serious.
General Discussion meetups are no longer on this page. It raped this forum when that happened. I'm serious.

The Org Exodus. It's kinda when I felt it was an "us" versus "them" mentality. Uptown no longer existed because that was when I knew Prince fans were not the openminded people I thought they were.

There are many other reasons this place isn't the same anymore for me but I keep coming back hoping to catch just a spark of what it used to mean to me.

I’ve been on the site for over 7 years (almost 8) and people said the same things when I joined that they say today. They complain about people being too fammy or too negative in the prince forum. They complain that there’s not enough musical diversity in the non-prince forum. They complain that everyone fun or funny has left. They complain about the moderation or lack thereof. They complain about trolls, baiting and banning.
So it was, so it is, so it ever will be.

I do think there are highs and lows, ebbs and flows, but it’s all cyclical.

prince.org "jumped the shark" when the mods got rid of the Love and Relationships forum.

I also make a case against forcing everybody into singular stickies for major events. HORRIBLE. There should be a standing HOT TOPICS thread that is unlocked when a major event happens (MJ dies, New Prince CD, etc). I have ideas on how to handle it on the database end too, but I'm not entirely sure what kinda motor is under the hood of this thing.

It's not even the org's fault, but this place became significantly less fun when NPGMC closed.

I was around for the exodus, but I was still something of a newbie then and it really did not effect me all that much.

The site hasn't jumped the shark (singular). The site has always read "Independent and unofficial". Ben has purposely kept it that way, not letting it become anything other than raw, real, and opinionated. If prince.org joined the L40A collective Borg hive, then it would have jumped the shark. If it had become in any way officially affiliated with Prince's camp, THEN it would have not jumped the shark, but lost its original purpose and goal.
