MEETUPS ? What forum?

OK, I've always had a problem with the move of General Discussion 'Org meetups' or 'org invasions' to the fan gathering forum for a couple of reasons:

1) First, in General Discussion there aren't really that many actual Prince fans.

2) The meetups are never Prince themed. These are just friends meeting each other.

I've even seen moderators like Carriempls post meetup threads in the General Discussino forum for her trip to NYC where she met several orgers. So, when can we post meetup threads in General Discussion and when should we post them in the Fan Gathering forum?

And why were the General Discussion meetup threads moved to the fan gathering forums anyways? I honestly feel there's a big difference between those "Prince vs. MJ meetups" or "Prince night at Berlin" meetups and just a bunch of friends from General Discussion looking to meetup with fuckall to do with Prince.

Opinions?

They all go in the Fan Gatherings forum cool And then you can attach your pics to it afterward.

If you and certain people want to privately get together than use emails or orgnotes.

So why wasn't Carrie's thread about meetup up with orgers for NYC moved?
I understand hers was not an 'event' but merely a post saying I'm going to NYC, and who would like to meetup, but that's a semantical difference. It was a meetup.

I'm not trying to call her out, but there's obviously not a 'consensus' here, or at least the rules are open to liberal interpretation.

I agree. No one even reads that forum anyway. It's the equivalent of the robot graveyard in I Robot. rolleyes

It probably should have gone in fan gatherings, but I didn't even think about it. For all of the reasons you mentioned. And now who cares anyway? lol

I never thought the "hey, I'm gonna be in this city so does anyone want to hang out" threads should go in fan gatherings either (as they have nothing to do with prince) but once upon a time I was vetoed, so I just do what the consensus of the mods was. shrug

BTW - there have been other threads like that left in GD, I'm sure there have.

And I think there is a distinction between that and organizing an org meet-up event. I wasn't looking to create a gathering of lots of people. I just wanted to find a date for the play I was seeing and maybe someone to have a meal with. That's honestly why I started the thread. I suppose it grew a little from there, but still and all, only 5 of us total met up. shrug

And I see why other mods think planned events of org members belong in the fan gathering forum, even if I don't agree. But that was decided on long ago.

if its a general..."im going to be in a certain place at a certain time" it should be in GD.

if its a full-on invasion, prince themed party, or, P is performing, meet up after, then fan gatherings is the place....IMO.

I only look at fan gatherings if a link is mentioned in thread.

I understand. But, it was a gathering of orgers. I even mentioned it on your thread, not out of spite but to point out the ridiculousness of the fact that it's ultimately an arbitrary distinction and rule isn't it?

Is a meetup of 2 people a date? 3?

The point is, regardless of your intentions or numbers of folks who show up, or even the formality of the event, if Prince has fuck-all to do with the event, I don't see why it should be in that wasteland of a Fam forum--it's not a prince related gathering.

I agree. But ultimately Ben didn't. So that's what happens. shrug

As for one thread that was almost a year ago, I'm not gonna worry about it much. lol

Meet-ups of orgers purely about socializing and not relating to Prince still go in the GD forum, right? Like Sammi and Sextonseven and them. Clearly that's the right place for it. Has that not always been the case? It'd be a shame to waste interesting threads like that in some wasteland of a forum that nobody goes to.
