Show/Hide Post(s) option

I retract my proposal to split Music & More.

Perhaps there should just be a "Hide This Post" and/or a "Hide All Posts by This User" option right next to the "Reply w/ Quote" and "orgNote" links under each post?

i like the idea of splitting m&m into separate boards, but i think it should be more like:

superficial board (post a picture of prince's facial hair, happy hanukkah prince, etc.)

music board (self-explanatory)

Tame board (where Tame can post her threads)

I think the split should simply be: Prince-The Music and Prince- Everything Else.

I agree as well.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

How about Things You Love About Prince and Things You Hate About Prince?

Honestly. I think the music should be seperated from all the variations of "Why I want to sleep with Prince and How I plan On making that Happen"

the Org is to me what Prince is to the haters--a miserable shell of its former self.

honey, take it from someone who has been here more than 7 years.

the org used to be a place we could joke about prince without people bursting into tears. then, when prince shut down the npgmc, the fams immigrated here, and have been trying to remake this place as the npgmc ever since.

if you can't handle the fact that those of us who have been here for a looooong time aren't willing to give over to the newbies and let them dictate how this place should be run... i don't know what to tell you.

and by the way, i wasn't commenting on you, i was making a joke. i don't know you from adam, and before you replied to my joke, i had never even heard of ya.

but, with all due respect, if a joke that small gets you upset, i think it would be a wsie choice to follow your own advice.

but i wish you all the best.

I am not a newbie...I've been a Prince fan since 1983 and I have been a part of the Org since 1998. I left for a brief time at the height of the PFU mess.

I did not "burst into tears." One of the drawbacks of an internet forum is that it takes the humanity out of a poster's "voice," occasionally making it impossible to discern a joke from a serious statement. I took you seriously, and for that I apologize. It just goes to show that I'm right about the extent to which this place has been ruined for me. There was a time when I would've taken what you said in jest, and even joined in the laughter. The negativity here has turned me into Grumpy McSourpuss, bringing out a side of myself that I don't like one bit.

Again, I am sorry for jumping on you, but please don't call me a "newbie fam."

i didn't. you seem to be jumping at percieved ghosts, and as was the case with my first post, misinterpreting anything i say as an attack on you.

again, i wish you the best.

I have an idea, so that there doesn't have to be 2 separate forums but one can easily sort the threads they want to view (either Music OR More).

First, the main PM&M forum would need to have a drop down box/option (like the one that says 'Limit to threads from' the last 10 days, 30, 45 etc)
with the option to 'View threads from' Music OR More (or other).

Or an option could be added to that same drop down box... 'View threads from' the last 10 days, 30, MUSIC, MORE (I wanna say other).

If they don't select an option, the forum will have all the threads together and listed like normal.

ALSO the thread creator, when creating the thread, must select an option that will indicate whether it belongs in the (strictly) MUSIC or OTHER category so that the selection option can determine what the viewer wants to see.

(I hope that I explained my idea well enough.)

Somebody floated a similar idea last summer. I thought the summer idea was bad and I think this is bad as well.

It will not lead to an end to snarky comments. People are free to go to any forum they want and make comments. You would have to restrict membership to the each forum. That sounds like a lot of pointless regulation to me.

Furthermore, why should the org work to minimize disagreement. If somebody cannot handle a little disagreement, they should not be on an on-line forum (or any discussion whatsoever). On-line forums are by their nature free-for-alls in which people say anything that comes to their minds, intelligent or not. Try as you will, but you can't stop that.

But you could always have a mod that would snip the snarky comments and give warnings to repeat offenders.

I, for one, am sick of the us versus them mentality. There are plenty of folks here who, like you said, cannot handle a little disagreement. I am all for leaving those folks to their own devices.

Thanks.
It might make it easier to find the threads on a song/album and its history much easier to find for those who want to converse on the music itself.

I have other questions for those in favor of this idea.

My situation as a fan could possibly leave me without a forum to use. Personally, I think that the old stuff, in general, is of a higher quality than the newer stuff. However, I enjoy much of the new music. So will there be another forum for people like me?

Furthermore, I suppose that many other orgers are like me in that they do not have a set before and after line that divides their opinion on the music. Let me elaborate:

As I said, I prefer the old stuff to the new stuff (but I love most the of the new stuff). However, I think some of the old stuff is not great. If I had my choice of Controversy or 3121, I would take 3121. If I had to play ATWIAD or Musicology, I would play Musicology. However, I would take 1999, Purple Rain, or Sign over just about everything (except for possibly the symbol album). So I ask once again, where does this leave me?

I can say one thing, the forums would be seriously boring if everyone just agreed on everything. I think the Prince: Music and More forum is fine just the way it is!
