There hasn't been all that much activity with the PPML for many, many, many months now. Looks like these forums have killed the PPML off, which is a shame really.

My understanding is that it's in limbo... you're right, the forums have essentially replaced it, and it's kinda too bad, but I think people prefer the "instant gratification" of the forums instead of waiting for a daily digest.

I know we (i.e., the .org staff) have talked about resurrecting the PPML as something other than a traditional email discussion list... we shall see.

The thing with the old PPML was that there was much less junk to sift through to find the real quality discussions. With the forums people are able to start up their own thread about anything they want. Couldn't the PPML be reborn as an instant News service?
