Do U know The Ten Commandments? (Bible - Exodus 20:2-17) You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. I think he (Prince) confound something... ... [u] [Edited 2/3/09 1:22am] [Edited 2/3/09 1:23am] [Edited 2/3/09 1:23am] Fuck that shit, and fuck Yaweh and his stupid ass rules. LazarusHeart said: Back in the day, here used to be some hilarious photoshop threads of Prince sponsored by moderators of the org. When I say photoshop threads, I'm talking about images of Prince which are manipulated for sake of parody.
But now I notice these are either deleted or locked post haste, while several photo threads of Prince remain in place. Barring the obvious bans of posting official Prince pictures, like those from his ill conceived and poorly executed vanity photo-book last year coupled with a lackluster live CD, there are still plenty of Prince photo threads which are permitted. Using trademark pictures, so far as I know is not permitted, however, using parodies of the original are. In other words, posting a picture of the LoveSexy album cover may not be permitted, but posting a morphed, photoshop picture for sake of parody is protected speech. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parody ) Even the Bush administration wasn't able to shut down sites parodying his administration, nor Harvard able to shut down NotHarvard.com ( http://www.uslaw.com/libr...rea_id=743 ). I guess, what I want to know is why aren't photoshoped images of Prince permitted? Is it because of a legal reason I'm not understanding? Is it based out of respect towards Prince himself? Or is it is the mere fact that dealing with a Cease and Desist request is difficult on its own? Or is it because lack of cooperation on an issue, which you may be protected against by law, still opens you up for additional scrutiny from the Prince camp thereby giving them more fuel to comb through the org looking for other things? I'm honestly not taking a piss here. It depresses me that photoshop threads involving Prince are not allowed. [Edited 1/28/09 20:10pm] Parody is protected yes, but besides issues of good taste and manners, there is a thin line between parody and defamation of character. Once a photshopped picture crosses or appears to cross the line, the org will be floated with threats and request to pull it off, or face further legal measures. In short, it's not feasible but incredibly frustrating, painstaking and costly to maintain a site like this with the paisley police constantly on your back.

Nice. Boasting about how you're going to get prince.org in trouble with official sources - you must be so proud of your efforts. They probably are, too. I obviously have issues with the Org (perhaps) allowing the very same things that brought HQ down, apart from disagreeing heavily with the parody side of it - I find parody excessively boring, satire is fun when done well but this is not it. It's... well I don't know what it is, but it should be kept on somebody else's site - who won't mind having it closed. Any photoshoppers volunteer?

Your own personal preferences are of no concern to the actual debate at hand, but thanks for posting that anyways. Whether one finds parody funny or not , it IS protected speech, as much as satire--which by the way, is a large part of the Prince fiction threads which lately are being locked as well. Nobody wants the site to be shut down--the premise of the thread was trying to determine why , when the law is on our side, we still cave into Prince's asinine and ridiculous bullying tactics, and what exactly those were. So far the only people who've offered relevant explanations have been Carri, Anx, and Rodeo. It's great folks don't like Prince being teased or they find jokes against him rude and all. I personally don't like fingers with long nails stuck up in my asshole. but that's not relevant to the questions posed in this thread, yall. FOCUS. [Edited 2/4/09 10:41am] Error Message:

Once again I'd suggest alerting all music and entertainment blogs and news sites with any such infantile flare ups from Dear Leader. It's sad to see the org which has long been a bastion of free thought in such matters cave into the petty rantings of a has been. The irony of Prince writing a song titled "Colonized Mind" becomes richer and richer with each passing day. The pancake makeup man-child just can't bear to have people practice free speech. Nothing in there is a personal opinion other than the fingers in my asshole part. But as such, you're previous post was completely as irrelevant as your continued self-defensive posts (yeah, I'm pre-empting the fact that you're going to try and point out my responses are self-defensive). I didn't say your opinions aren't valid, boring as they are. Just that they are irrelevant to the conversation. It's nice that so many folks post things so they can pat themselves on the back for what they said---but please people, stay on topic. This Teacher character is indicative of scope creep on these threads. So.... that being said, from what I gather by you folks who DID post relevant and intelligent responses, it boils down to resources. Prince simply can outspend us and has a lot less to loose. Which as Anx stated, is his right, but seems a bit wrong when you think about it. At least, unfair. Error Message:

You pretty much summed it up there. However, you have to bear in mind that it's not that it's too much trouble for the org in a mundane sense. Prince can hire people to go over every post with a fine tooth comb if he wanted. There's no way a site can moderate every post ever second of the day--it's just not practical. So if you come off as uncooperative to the Prince camp, you would probably open yourself up to such treatment. We all know Paisley park is monitoring what is being posted by orgers. I have first hand knowledge of that. But the fact is, if your David and they're Goliath, you have a lot more to lose than they do. It's funny that the org really means nothing to Prince in the long run, but he's willing to give us a hard time anyways. It's almost sick, really. Error Message:

So what? This isn't Nazi Germany or Communist Russia where one has to worry about Hitler or Lenin. Let them waste time and comb over the site until the cows come home. Unless someone is linking to a bootleg site, which is not allowed here, then there's nothing improper or unlawful going on. I'm starting to think Prince shares more than just physical stature with Kim Jong II. "Colonized Mind" is apparently what Prince expects from his dwindling fan base. We all know Paisley park is monitoring what is being posted by orgers. I have first hand knowledge of that.
Which I find utterly hilarious. How paranoid and pathetic is that? I really think this type of thing should be more widely known. A well constructed email to blogs or even sites like OkayPlayer, letting people know how Prince, an American citizen, wants to rule his fandom with the iron fist of a petulant dictator. But the fact is, if your David and they're Goliath, you have a lot more to lose than they do. It's funny that the org really means nothing to Prince in the long run, but he's willing to give us a hard time anyways. It's almost sick, really. I'm not sure who has more to lose. If it wasn't for people on the org and Housequake, Prince would be lucky to sell 10k of his upcoming albums. Who does he think buys his uninspired dreck? No hard feelings.

YES! Finally the mods are listening to us. I see there's now a dedicated Lotusflow3r forum. If that's not the appopriate place for photoshops of artwork and promo shots for Prince's slammin' new joint I DONT KNOW WHAT IS!
If anyone needs me I'll be busy making hundreds of .png files of Prince's oversized head in Photoshop, in readiness for all of the fun photo situations I can find on google to stick them on. I imagine it's only wrong if we don't improve the original artwork. NOT PROBLEMATIC!
