The PFU site should link to all the media coverage which is online. I expect that most of the coverage over the next few days will show Web Sheriff's actions in an unfavourable light, which could only bolster the argument against them.

i'd be posting more on the front page but i don't have rights to link from this forum. i do have ways around it and i need to discuss with ben and the other mods just exactly how much PFU stuff we want to feature on the news page. i don't want overkill, but i don't want to sit on how much coverage PFU is obtaining, either.

thoughts?

Well, firstly create a sole separate thread here for collating links to online media reports. Delete any duplicate links through moderation.

Secondly, whomever the webmaster of PFU.com is, needs to add a button or Javascript-form so people can submit these reports as they come across them. Once this facility is available, delete the "link gathering" thread here.

Totally off topic, but I wanted to say that I think it's neat that everybody who has posted on this thread (so far) all have the same avatar. As Public Enemy once said, "Fight the Power!" thumbs up!

Prince is'nt on the front cover of one of the most respected newspapers in the UK by coincidence !

This was my favorite bit:

"It's a really short-sighted and futile move," said Nicola Slade, editor of the industry newsletter Record of the Day. "Prince has got a lot of fans and as he's decided to take a more leftfield approach to releasing his material, he should be nurturing the relationship. I'm shocked, really."

Not that P has ever been afraid to "shock" the industry, but usually there's a business reason behind it. It /will/ be interesting if it turns out there is a master business plan behind all of this, like shutting us down allows him to open some mega-sized pay community. I can't tell you how much I expect that wouldn't work, even if he tried...

Yeah, it's hard to see how this could ever succeed - if one strictly controlled pay site is what he is after. It didn't work before and the web is an even more splintered place now. He cannot possibly recall all that material and stop it from being disseminated.
