Maybe just retire from the industry and sulk in his studio for hours on end producing masterpieces that he'll take great joy in knowing that nobody will ever hear. That is exaclty what he did anyway. The music never got freed did it? At this point I could care less if Prince drops off into obscurity. I do think he's still capable of making the most amazing art of anybody out there but art has to be his focus and not the pennies he can glom from his fans in this bullshit fashion. While he didn't deliver on his promises, many of them during the symbol years, still there was a lot to be thankful for as a fan during that time. Now I am not willing to stick around for more broken promises and get sued in the process of waiting. Nope, not interested. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

i think Prince is right, i am sorry. as a fan, i am not personally offended by the actions.
i applaude him for the way he used the internet to get his music to us (sometimes for free), and i agree that he should have a say about any image of him published without permission. i also think the abreveation PFU is poorly chosen as it basically says Prince fuck U. that is not the way to get the discussion started. yes SIR!

And The Org, with it's many different forums, have always allowed me to participate in many discussions on things ASIDE from Prince and his music. They could change the name to Music.org and I'd still be good. Exactly. This is my main concern. If Prince should get his way, I think the site should still remain as a discussion site for music in general because I have searched the internet and there is absolutely NO better site for discussing music than the "Music: Non-Prince" section of prince.org. Wow!!! Are you serious? I guess I don't need to go looking I have been to other sites to discuss the music of my favorite artists and Prince.org has always been the place with the best discussions, even better than the official boards of some of my favorite artists 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Old, old friends 4 sale Get'em while the gettin' is hot But U better watch out, they'll kiss U until they get what U got And they'll show U the friends that they're not Old friends 4 sale Prince definitely has shown us that he does not consider us to be his friends, and he is now "selling" us, by telling us what we can and cannot do. I've done this before. And I will do it again. Come on and kill me baby, while you smile like a friend. And I'll come running, Just to do it again. You are the last drink I never should drunk. You are the body hidden in the trunk. You are the habit I can't seem to kick. You are my secrets on the front page every week. You are the car I never should have bought. You are the train I never should have caught. You are the cut that makes me hide my face. You are the party that makes me feel my age. Like a car crash I can see but I just can't avoid. Like a plane I've been told I never should board. Like a film that's so bad but I've gotta stay til the end. Let me tell you now, It's lucky for you that we're friends. In all seriousness,
Prince's fansites should be separate from Prince's own website and we should be free to use any image not owned by Prince. Prince's fansites should also be free to discuss whatever they want, positive or negative. Thus, the webmasters should be free from any threats from Prince's camp. To ever threaten a fansite and to demand compensation is as low as a celebrity could ever go. Prince should be allowed to operate his own site the way he sees fit, and release his own news, music, videos, and whatever he directly owns. I don't see why Prince and his camp have to create these problems + demand compensation when these fansites are strictly not for profit. Prince has lost no money from fan sites. You'd think since Housequake has over 32,000 fans, Prince would approach them kindly and not care about trivial matters... instead offering a kind word and using the connection to better get his music out and sell items. At the very least, all sites can survive in harmony, without greedy lawyers and what not. "Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?"

Tom said: Prince ought to take a step back and look at what Radiohead accomplished. Radiohead respects their fans, thats why they were rewarded 10-fold when they put their album out there for free and left it up to the consumer to donate money - on an honor system basically. Likewise, when Trent Reznor starts putting his stuff out there independently, it wouldn't suprise me at all if he gets the same response.
Are there any figures on how much they have made so far from that internet release? I paid the market price for a new CD. Actually, probably a bit more as the US equivalent came ot nearly $18.00. I paid it because I LOVE that band and I would do the same for Prince if he'd only give the love and free the art for real. Prince had the best opportunity of any artist out there to be the biggest pioneer when it comes to the net, especially when you consider his fight against the industry. He could have been the biggest and brightest shining star. Instead..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

onenitealone said: Prince... what happened, eh??? Where did you go??
Y'know, a few weeks ago, I went to see Prince's final night at the O2 Arena - one of the most emotional P concerts I've ever attended; the atmosphere was electric - followed by THE most incredible Aftershow. People were already talking about it possibly being the last ever Prince concert. We were so spoiled, I can't begin to tell you how exhilarating the whole night was. It's completely embedded in my mind. Silly as this may sound, however, standing five foot away from him on the Indigo stage, I looked at him and thought "Y'know - he's just a bloke. A totally inspirational and obscenely talented one but - ultimately - just another bloke". And something changed right there. It *hasn't* taken me 14 years to realise that, by the way - I've always tried to avoid falling into the Fam Trap - but, being up that close and personal... there's no better way to get behind the mystique. Don't get me wrong, I am in awe of his talents. I absolutely love his music, he astonishes me with his creativity, it blows my mind how one person can come up with so much. And where does it come from??? DAMN - so many questions. He is still the best live act on the planet. I can't imagine my life without his music (in the same way I adore other artists' output). He has soundtracked the last 14 years of my life. But, pathetic as this sounds, this is one of the saddest days I have known being a Prince fan. You have all said it for me already, and far more eloquently, but I can't believe this is happening. Or understand what he hopes to achieve - apart from alienating the very people who love him most. Maybe - maybe - in ten, fifteen years' time we'll all look back at this period and completely understand this move. Despite the bizarre approach, we can now look back at the early 90's 'Slave' period and see exactly what Prince was trying to achieve; one look at today's industry and you can understand why Prince had concerns about it back then. (Never mind the fact he was a rich, successful adult musician signing the contract ). So maybe - maybe - in a few years' time, this will all blow over and, yet again, Prince will have made his point. Although whether we agree with the way it was executed or not is another matter. But, right now, I cannot see how this will endear him to anyone bar his lawyers. Fellow musicians will probably just roll their eyes and say 'There he goes again ', the media will be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of a star of his magnitude in meltdown and the fans will be devastated. Everyone else probably won't give a damn. Okay - you retain control of your imagery and your output - but at what cost?? It's just a sad, sad spectacle. Prince, you're just a bloke - a fabulously talented, filthily rich, bewildering one at that - but just a bloke. As much as I love you, nobody is entitled to the level of control you seek. Please re-think this move and don't hurt your fans. well there is a big difference. Back in the 90s with the first go round against the fans, the net was pretty new and a lot of us were not affected, which made it easier for many of us (myself included) to forgive and look the other way. We have that first experience behinds us now and we have the whole slave years to remember back on all the promises made and not delivered on. We have the memory of being a fan at the risk of our own reputation. How many of us made excuses for him? How many of us fought to convince people that Prince's art was worthy of owning and listening to? How many of us had little to no real explanation for the symbol crap? WE stuck with him through all that crap. Now we are older and wiser and most of us will not tolerate this treatment and will back our words with our actions. I have seen Me'Shell, PJ Harvey, The Brand New Heavies and might see Erykah Badu next week. My musical world will not be lacking without Prince. I will have no problem using the money that would have gone to him and devoting it to these others and more. None at all. Prince needs to quit this shit and apologize and fire those people around him who might be stoking the fires or convincing him this shit is a good idea. I've been abused by a real man in my life and I left that shit to become a whole person. I sure as hell am not going to be abused by Prince. Hell no. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
