The only people who buy his records are his fans - he would be insane for closing down fan sites.

Anyway, I hope the ORG doesnt go down, I love the org, wouldnt know what to do without the ORG. I hate prince but love the ORG. Freedom of speech means everything to me, freedom of expression and the sharing of a common theme. The ability to be critical and to praise should not be taken away by some inward looking person who doesnt live in the real world. Im right behind you guys.. all the way..

Prince... what happened, eh??? sigh Where did you go??

Y'know, a few weeks ago, I went to see Prince's final night at the O2 Arena - one of the most emotional P concerts I've ever attended; the atmosphere was electric - followed by THE most incredible Aftershow. People were already talking about it possibly being the last ever Prince concert. We were so spoiled, I can't begin to tell you how exhilarating the whole night was. It's completely embedded in my mind.

Silly as this may sound, however, standing five foot away from him on the Indigo stage, I looked at him and thought "Y'know hmmm - he's just a bloke. A totally inspirational and obscenely talented one but - ultimately - just another bloke". And something changed right there.

It *hasn't* taken me 14 years to realise that, by the way lol - I've always tried to avoid falling into the Fam Trap shake - but, being up that close and personal... there's no better way to get behind the mystique.

Don't get me wrong, I am in awe of his talents. I absolutely love his music, he astonishes me with his creativity, it blows my mind how one person can come up with so much. And where does it come from??? DAMN - so many questions. He is still the best live act on the planet. I can't imagine my life without his music (in the same way I adore other artists' output). He has soundtracked the last 14 years of my life. But, pathetic as this sounds, this is one of the saddest days I have known being a Prince fan. You have all said it for me already, and far more eloquently, but I can't believe this is happening. Or understand what he hopes to achieve - apart from alienating the very people who love him most.

Maybe - maybe - in ten, fifteen years' time we'll all look back at this period and completely understand this move. Despite the bizarre approach, we can now look back at the early 90's 'Slave' period and see exactly what Prince was trying to achieve; one look at today's industry and you can understand why Prince had concerns about it back then. (Never mind the fact he was a rich, successful adult musician signing the contract confused whistling). So maybe - maybe - in a few years' time, this will all blow over and, yet again, Prince will have made his point. Although whether we agree with the way it was executed or not is another matter. But, right now, I cannot see how this will endear him to anyone bar his lawyers. Fellow musicians will probably just roll their eyes and say 'There he goes again rolleyes', the media will be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of a star of his magnitude in meltdown and the fans will be devastated. Everyone else probably won't give a damn. Okay - you retain control of your imagery and your output - but at what cost?? It's just a sad, sad spectacle.

Prince, you're just a bloke - a fabulously talented, filthily rich, bewildering one at that - but just a bloke. As much as I love you, nobody is entitled to the level of control you seek. Please re-think this move and don't hurt your fans.

well there is a big difference. Back in the 90s with the first go round against the fans, the net was pretty new and a lot of us were not affected, which made it easier for many of us (myself included) to forgive and look the other way. We have that first experience behinds us now and we have the whole slave years to remember back on all the promises made and not delivered on.

We have the memory of being a fan at the risk of our own reputation. How many of us made excuses for him? How many of us fought to convince people that Prince's art was worthy of owning and listening to? How many of us had little to no real explanation for the symbol crap? WE stuck with him through all that crap. Now we are older and wiser and most of us will not tolerate this treatment and will back our words with our actions.

I have seen Me'Shell, PJ Harvey, The Brand New Heavies and might see Erykah Badu next week. My musical world will not be lacking without Prince. I will have no problem using the money that would have gone to him and devoting it to these others and more. None at all. Prince needs to quit this shit and apologize and fire those people around him who might be stoking the fires or convincing him this shit is a good idea. I've been abused by a real man in my life and I left that shit to become a whole person. I sure as hell am not going to be abused by Prince. Hell no.

You were the on the final aftershow, so you know this moment was magic. How can he act this way after that ? So pathetic. Everything was so perfect this summer. He was "normal", warm and so talented. We were so proud of him. His shows were so great... We'll miss him. He might come 2 Paris 1 day, I might (well let's b honest, will probably) go but omething will b missing 4ever. It will never b the same. What could he do with more money ? The 1 thing u can't buy is love, and he just lost so much of it... If he needed some £ or $, he could have asked his fans confused We were so eager to buy stuff from him. B4... sad sad sad

I got this off HQ and I believe it was posted of the PFU site?

Dear Administrators,

Re : EXTREMELY URGENT / YOUR SITE - LIBEL NOTICE

As you know, Web Sheriff represents AEG Worldwide, Paisley Park Enterprises / NPG Records and PRINCE in relation to – inter alia – the above.

We understand that you (ergo your administrators and moderators personally) control the web-site www.princefansunited.com (hereinafter referred to as the “Libellous Site”). We are writing to advise you that our clients consider the Libellous Site to contain defamatory statements – all under the banner ”PRINCE FANS FIGHT BACK AGAINST ATTACKS” which, in itself, we would also say is defamatory - that both libel PRINCE and, equally, that constitute malicious falsehoods injurious to our clients’ business interests (hereinafter referred to as the “Libellous Statements”) including, but not limited to, the following :-

1. In an extraordinary, but not unfamiliar move, the rock legend Prince is using an army of lawyers to launch attacks on his own fans.

2. It is our belief that these threats are not made in an attempt to enforce valid copyright as Prince alleges in his threats, rather we believe they are attempts to stifle all critical commentary about Prince.

3. It is their hope that Prince will reconsider his position and allow these fansites to continue their existence without constant threats from Prince and his attorneys.

Our clients consider the above statements to be both factually incorrect and misleading and, in all of the circumstances, we would ask you to immediately remove the Libellous Site (as containing the Libellous Statements or anything else that could constitute a libel and / or a malicious falsehood in respect of our clients) : this is particularly urgent, as we gather that your site is about to be publicly launched to the world’s media by means of a press-release and, if this were to happen, the scope for damage to our clients’ reputations (and, equally, the scope for compensatory damages to our clients) would be very significantly increased. Should you fail to comply with our clients’ reasonable request (as contained herein) and, therefore, should you continue to publish the Libellous Statements on a joint and several basis, we would kindly ask you to provide us with the names and addresses of your lawyers in Holland, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, for the purposes of dealing with the appropriate legal actions that shall follow against the officers of your site personally.

We shall look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Whilst writing, we would caution you against communicating any further correspondence or remarks to third parties that could, in any way, be construed as being libellous of PRINCE or that could otherwise constitute a malicious falsehood, injurious to our clients’ business interests. Similarly, we would remind you that this communication is the copyright of Web Sheriff and, as such, any publication and / or dissemination to third parties would be actionable. Furthermore, Web Sheriff cannot be held liable for the consequences of any such publication and / or dissemination in the event that the same originated from yourselves or parties connected to you.

Naturally and notwithstanding the foregoing, all accumulated, worldwide rights and remedies of our clients in this matter remain strictly reserved.

Yours sincerely,

WEB SHERIFF

What is libelous about any of that?

1 - Prince has sued his fans before, therefore this is not an unfamiliar move.

2 - What else could this be? Prince wants to censor tatoos and car license plates from being shown! CENSORSHIP

3 - How is this libelous? It is expressing the desire of the sites that we be allowed to exist without Prince and his lawyers butting their noses into our lives. THEY ARE DOING THIS!

Like I stated before, the 90s saw us as pretty disjointed and ununified. Most of us were new to these message boards and really didn't have a grasp on the initial lawsuits. Now we have a decade of community as the backdrop to all of this. Prince isn't just threatening Ben, he is threatening ALL OF US. We come here for more than Prince. How many friendships have been made? How many marriages have happened? How many children have been born? How many amazing experiences have been had?

And none of that would have been possible for the majority of us without the one unifying thread that brought us all here and brought us all together. PRINCE. None of that matters to these people. All they want is money and they could have had our money and they could have had it willingly and gladly! Now I hope that Prince fans unite in telling him and his lawyers to screw off and we can do that with our pocketbooks. Don't open em up anymore. This is just getting beyond sick. Prince has lost me as a supporting fan forever.

man, there's a BIG difference between legal justice and legal thuggery, isn't there?

and we're seeing that difference right here.

prince is the master pimp, once again...giving all his purple bitches a $upreme $mackdown one more time.

when's it gonna be time to take off the platform boots and zebraskin hat and finally behave like a damn grown up who doesn't have to record a special album to remind himself what planet he lives on?

that legal notice is nothing short of villainous and cowardly.

i mourn for the prince who i celebrated every day when i was 14. i'm not sure exactly when he passed away, but i know now that he's no longer among us.

damn shame, really. sigh

I'm transferring this from another thread 'cause I think it's better off here...

people take venomous and disrespectful criticism everyday...why should Prince be any different...the thing that really boggles my mind is that some are so blind to the fact that Prince has always been a control freak...that being said, much of the criticism he receives about his "personality" is warranted...

sure, people use colorful and disrespectful language sometimes in their criticism but thats their perogative (or problem depending on your point of view)...I've said a few choice things about Prince in these forums and I've received the backlash that goes along with it from folks that disagreed with me...that's fair...that's the way it should be...but what Prince is suggesting is absolutely intolerable...basically my opinion of him, wether it be positive or negative, should have no open forum to be discussed...unless he provides it...

the fact that I even take time to post this means I give a damn...mainly about this site where I've made a few friends...even thru all his b.s. I still give a damn about Prince...but I refuse to be so blinded my my fan-dom that I won't stand up for what's right...

the things said about Prince here can be taken with a grain of salt...if anything, they are more a reflection of the poster and their mind set...they have minimal; if any, reflection on Prince...it's all subjective anyway...and quite honestly, Prince is the last one that should give anybody a lesson on being subjective...

I'm wondering if Prince's actions to dominate like this are orders from on high by the Jehovah's Witnesses elders???? Or maybe Prince thinks he's getting some command from Jehovah Himself?????
