I wanna know what the hell does fatalbert have to do with this site. falloff Not saying that it should be done away with like other emoticons, but in what situation other than saying "hey hey hey" would you use Fat Albert. When I first joined I almost died laughing when I saw it.

Yup. Completely.

Banning users who consistently flame and/or break site rules makes sense. Banning emoticons that are otherwise fun for the vast majority of the org community doesn't. shrug If a simple lick emoticon is offensive to you, I'm not sure what you're doing on a Prince site, considering his catalog. That's all I'm saying.

We all at one time feel sensitive or upset about one thing or another that goes on here. Instead treating this thread like a joke, which I kn ow it is not, have a little compassion for someone. I know the internet is a place for people to play and act like something they are not, but there is a real person behind the words in the initial post.

sos said it pretty well i think. i dont agree certain emoticans should be banned. i'm all for freedom of speech period. but i do understand. i could see how this finger is offensive especially. it amazing how the very same people ridiculing this are the same ones who make complaints about things on the site that only a person without a life would subject themselves and us to imo yawn and i think its best when moderators contribute their opinions in a neutral unbiased manner regardless of their opinion. but thats just what i think shrug

Well, I suppose it's in the explicity/explicitness (is that a word?) of it. Standards of decent/obscene are likely to vary greatly from person to person, but you can imagine a website devoted to the creater of Head and Sister is gonna lean towards the liberal when it comes to sex. I think the mods in general have a fairly consistent approach to what they'll snip or not based loosely on what would likely be the standards of the 'community' here. An emoticon generally pokes fun. I stand by my statement that if you're easliy offended, this probably isn't the best website for you.

Nope, my posts were serious. We expect for people to deal with certain issues the way that we do and that's just not fair. If Blackbuddy is genuinely offended by things, no one can take away from that being valid to her.

To add my twocents I feel that deleting emoticons is reducing the Org to a nanny state. Removing emoticons will not disenable people from being offensive to another individual.

Surely, in any relationship there are different ways of expressing stfu. This can be done to a friend and received with much hilarity. However, to a stranger it would be very offensive. Lighthearted friendships are created on the Org and such emoticons represent normal coloquial speech between humans. Just as in real life you would choose your words to match the recipient and the conversation so it is with the emoticon.

Therefore, to sum up, removing emoticons is unrealistic censorship and a totally redundant action.

Anyway, um, if a person is offended by these particular emoticons he/she should not use them and try to avoid threads with them. Lots of people here aren't offended by them, so what about us? I would personally be offended if this weren't an emoticon...

This is terrible, the more I thought about it I realised that "disenable" and "disable" aren't even of the same... don't know but they don't even relate to the same occurrance, same "event". I feel soooo dumb now, I'll just learn my lesson and NEVER again question people's language. wall err

Oh my gawd, I missed this thread.

You know, I've always been offended by the fact that virtually all of the emoticon people are bald, implying that they are either men or cancer victims. As I am neither a man nor a cancer vicitm (yet!), I do not feel that I am being acknowledged as a part of this community. WHY must my emotions be expressed as though they come from a dick-weilder or tumor factory?

That's all I'm sayin'.
