I'm not getting this site, I guess And I honestly wish I had more time to sit here to explain my position and discuss it ad nauseum, but I don't. Is there room in this site for actual exchange of ideas, along with differing opinions? Or is it the collective majority that decides for the rest of us?
Some of the moderators are excellent in their review of what should be locked and what shouldn't. Dare I say that there is one who just doesn't seem to know what the hell they're doing? Will I get banned for saying something like that? The Prince divorce thread has me confused. In all of the threads created in all of the forums for this site, there is thread jacking. So, WHY, I ask, does the Prince Divorce thread have to be locked when people go off topic a bit? I saw absolutely no flaming, at least not anything worse than what I've seen in several other threads. Why the heavy handedness with that particular thread? Is there something I'm not seeing that you are? Why must the people on that thread follow a rule that is NEVER enforced anywhere else? Any help would be appreciated.

All but one mod seems to do a good job, I guess the exception just has a power trip complex, perhaps stemming from a shitty real world job and unfulfilling life? Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... Muh!!!

Watch out! I said almost this exact same thing on a thread about Orgers being "cliquey", in a joking way and not about anyone specific, and it was reported by someone with personal issues with me and snipped as "flame-bait". Back on the subject of the original post, I've asked a moderator directly about this next bit and was told they'd get back to me (no one has yet): do mods automatically snip or delete something reported OR do they evaluate it independently and then make a decision--a decision, perhaps, that sometimes the reported item isn't against site rules? It just seems more and more like ANYthing objectionable in ANY form by ANYone is deleted. I'm also wondering about personal friendships of mods with other Orgers and how that must affect moderating that person.

um well the divorce thread is about a very delicate subject, an open invitation for people to git really nasty, which im assuming isnt cool, when talking about an unfortunate personal event in prince's life. ?? " the embassy shut to keep the fools out " - as above, so below.

The moderating is unfair and one particular mod is the worst of them all.

[Edited 7/29/06 20:24pm] Well, I want to be clear that I don't have any issues with the way anyone is moderating specifically. If I had continuous issues with a mod, I'd take it up with him/her specifically. And actually, SOS, you were great once in letting me know you were going to pass on dealing w/something as a mod because of your personal relationship with that person--I really respected that, and I feel like I know where you stand on my last question about personal relationships with Orgers and their effect on your job. What's your stand on how you handle something that's reported? Do you automatically snip or delete the offensive item to quiet the reporter, even if you can't see how it violates site rules, or do you look at it and make a decision based upon your own take?

Well, yesterday was a shitty day at work, so I was venting a little. But what I wanted to know is why that particular thread is being so censored. Because it's a sensitive subject? A lot of threads are. Please explain why it's so important to stay on topic on just that one thread, when I noticed that you yourself were slightly veering off IN the third thread. Make sense?

A lot of threads are. Please explain why it's so important to stay on topic on just that one thread, when I noticed that you yourself were slightly veering off IN the third thread. Make sense? Well, no problem - we all have days like that, and here for your delectation is mine - so allow me to vent a little... Well, I would have thought my third post in that thread tells you all you need to know. But back to your specific question and the points you made in your main rather cryptic post: 1) Heavy handed/censorship Well, I'm guessing that it elluded your attention, (Hey look! I can be patronising too - "make sense?") but the majority of the main post in divorce thread III is simply what I cut and pasted from Luv4u's previous main post on sticky thread number II. So where you got the idea that I was being heavy-handed God only knows - besides, I don't see anything heavy-handed about what Luv4u wrote anyway - as mods we can only ask so many times before we finally have to S-P-E-L-L IT OUT. Oh, and for the record, I censored nothing: pay attention at the back there... 2) The reason the other thread was closed: ...was two fold, but one more important than the other: a) It was getting quite long, and (as we all know from previous experience - even though they've been informed how they can make these pages fast loading via their org settings) people piss and moan about that too, so it was pretty much time for a fresh thread to be made anyway in that sense alone... b) There were a number of complaints about a fair selection of innapropriate comments relating to race amongst a few other things. I'm sure I don't need to remind you or anyone else that the main post in thread number two (the one that I copied and pasted that someone else wrote...remember?) stated quite clearly to stick to the subject matter. 3) Why did I go off topic on the third thread? Maybe I did - but it seems there's an awful lot of finger pointing in my direction which does make me wonder somewhat. Seems like it's ok for some people to do it, and not for others. So hey, shoot me. 4) So finally - to reitterate: why start yet another sticky thread? Again, like my 3rd post on that 3rd sticky stated - in essense, if there IS a post for people to post on - some moan. If there wasn't a post for people to post on...would you like to take a wild guess? They'd moan. A simple case of 'damned if you do, damned if ya don't'. Hope that helps gem. If not, this should be reffered to: http://www.prince.org/msg/3/194033 ***** ***** ***** Now, seen as we're on the subject of all things 'modding', I may as well throw the remainder of my cards on the table... As mods, we all (well, most of us - depending on how you look at it) try our best here, sacrificing considerable amounts of personal time when the majority of feedback we get consists of people demanding we do something "NOW!" about this or that like we're at their beck and call, shitty org notes, or simply quibbling over some tired, sad old issue that's been debated a thousand times before and most likely will be forever more. It makes me laugh how those that seem to have some form of personal beef against any mods particular 'modding style' seem to think it's all so damned easy. I wonder if they would think that if the shoe was on the other foot...somehow I very much doubt it - like I said before, damned if ya do, damned if ya don't... Well, I guess now's as good a time as any to say it - those of you who have issue with my moderating style can fret no longer and put your little purple flags up because you'll be pleased to know that my time here as a mod is now nigh - put into stark context of late after a recent serious spell in hospital - not that any of you fuckers even noticed. So with yet another hospital incarceration pending later this week for yet futher biopsies I think those of you with a litle heart will agree that anyone in such a position could do without the added stress of having to address the pathetic little dramas and trivial issues that are often raised here - that, (in the grand scheme of things) are so unimportant (and ultimately worthless) that it's truly LAUGHABLE. Good ol' Ben has been informed, and the gallery has a new mod on the way, and the ball is well and truly rolling. I shall remain active within the gallery area of the site until the remainder of my collection is scanned and uploaded. After that, for all intents and purposes, I'm outta here and won't be looking back. These points raised, being the only mod this side of the ocean hasn't helped at times either, and I hope that is something that can be rectified in the near future. So worry not your little heads no more and rejoice, I'm off! I'm soooo sorry I was such a thorn in some peoples sides. There are a lot of you who really need to get out more. Seriously. There, I think I answered all the points raised, as well as a few of my own, which leaves this conversation now pretty much mute. Right, I'm done. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to grab the rest of my life back. Damn, this felt good. -BC PS: 'Love4OneAnother' my ass.
