Who remembers Old Org? I'VE GOTTA SAY This brought back some fond old memories... The current site obviously kicks Old Org's ass and drags it kicking and screaming but it goes to show how far this place has come. Anyway here's to Old Org and some of the CrazyAssMofos's who used to inhabit that joint. M.2.K

I remeber checking out Prince.org, after getting fed up with the Prince bulletin board on AOL. But I never quite understood how it was set up, it didn't seem like you could start your own topics, just respond to whatever was made available. I posted a few times and nearly got my head ripped off, then just lurked for a few years till v2 came to be.

Ha! Rad.
I have to say, I didn't really see the point. I was pretty happy with the PPML, and just wished that would keep rolling. But, I came around. Seattle Org Invasion July 28th-30th http://www.prince.org/msg/2/177514

Actually, there's probably still a place for a maillist like the PPML. But it's a lot of moderation work, and most people prefer the forums; so at least we aren't likely to resurrect it. ben -- "the prince.org guy" |

You think so, eh? I don't know. I could imagine a news digest, I guess, but it's hard to imagine preferring a mailing list for discussion these days. I don't remember that old-Org so much.
It looks more up-to-date and modern than this one (i.e. less lavender), but at the same time less user-friendly (if possible lol). What is the PLMP thing that people always harp on about?

I remembered vaguely of the old org but at the time I was a regular of other Prince's sites such as Hammer's page and more before they were shut down or ran due to lawsuit threats by Prince's lawyer. And I think Steve (of Hammer page)just lost interest with his site so now Prince.org is the biggest unofficial site. despite I joined in 2004, I was around since 2002 or earlier as a lurker at the beginning (I mean since the new and improved org took place or whatever). I also remembered Ben used to post here a lot too back then. [Edited 3/4/06 21:00pm]

[Edited 2/19/06 20:02pm] ahhh, hammer's that's actually how the first big batch of the web-based community came to be here (though the mailing list was around prior to that). the ppml chatroom opened just about the time hammer shut his chatroom.

AMP used to be popular back then but now it is sort of quiet there as many former AMPers are on here now. Ernest was (and still is) something else. I don't think he likes Prince at all anymore. I am going to keep my remarks about him to myself. [Edited 2/21/06 19:22pm]

Wow. I haven't seen the {KLS} tag in ages. Anyway, I'm glad to know you're still out there and (presumably) doing well. For those of you who don't know your .org history, Kevin is one of the two founders of the entity now known as prince.org. On November 15, 1995, he and Mark Church founded the Paisley Park Mailing List ("PPML"), which later evolved into prince.org. BTW, anyone know what Mark Church is up to these days? Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

When the PPML started, it was strictly email-only, with Kevin and Mark as the moderators. Shortly thereafter, Ben set up a website to archive the PPML email digests. When Mark decided to retire, Kevin chose Ben to take over the vacant moderator position. As time went on, more stuff was added to the PPML website, which operated until May 1998. Then the server suffered a hard drive crash, and we temporarily ceased operations. Over the next several months, Ben and Kevin rebuilt the PPML website into prince.org, which opened to the public on January 1, 1999. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
