I was waiting for a reaction to the title of the thread...it's a literary allusion and a double entendre. Think Oscar Wilde. If that doesn't work, there's always Google.

Cool. You know you're trying to close the door after all the horses have run out, which means a lot of wrong to repair. I still think with several thousand users, a flat statement that the user agreement will be more vigorously enforced to create 'whatever kind of community you want here' (fill in with words of your choosing) puts the org on notice that the crap stops today. In one fell swoop, you tell people to stop the nonsense and enlist a cadre of helping hands to boot.

This doesn't mean war at all. This simply means a better understanding of what we're doing here. That's all. We can hopefully iron out a better knowledge of what we can and can't do on here, and Ben and Matt might get a better idea of what we do and don't want from the Org, and hopefully somewhere in all the dialogue, we can all be happy. Just that simple.

Matt, if you are going to justify yourself to these cretins, it is going to take up all your online time. The fact that they are also personally insulting you makes it even worse. http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=16793

Schausler has not been barred from the site. He requested that his account was closed.
He posted a nonsense thread that by no means qualifies as a discussion point. The thread was locked by the moderators for this reason. At the end of the day, this site belongs to the moderators. It is only through their hard work (for free) that we are even able to post on this site. Schauslers thread was locked, big deal. Get over it and move on.

You go for it Matt. Police away. We need to get rid of all the nonsense bollox that keeps showing up here. People say its a community. I say its in danger of anarchy with some of the dire crap that is pointlessly said on here. For Magento eCommerce store development try out https://magentodevelopment.co.uk

Agreed JohnnyBoyRebel. Certain individuals have not been responsible with the freedom given them. They must understand that they carry some of the weight for the moderators decision.
You only have to glance at the mass of nonsense threads that have appeared over the past few weeks, to realise that some form of action was necessary.

I have nothing against controversy. Wanna tell me about god? Then go for it, you may get dissed something chronic for your preaching, but at least it means we have a debate on our hands, and hence two contrasting opinions.
Thats fine. Want to talk about football or want to be xenaphobic then thats fine too. But fucking 'voomyo vooms ta ta toomy voom voom chooms va va fout' is completely pointless. More pointless than the 'im first' posts on the old org. The only follow ups to that type of non-topic are mearly gibberish and waffel. And there is enough of that scattered amongst the more topical threads without the need to start a whole thread in that vain. This is good. Moderation should be tougher. The org was in danger of becoming a free for all, and that would have resulted in anarchy bullshit completely removed from the relevance that is PRINCE.org. I wouldn't even bother locking the threads. Just delete them entirely. i agree...or at least move the threads to this forum section...but to leave the threads there but killed, reeks of wanting attention from Matt. IMHO, by the way, the new *attitude* conveyed in the thread you mention Antony does not bode well with me. I have fully supported the moderators here over the past day but when one of them starts flinging mudd, its cause for some concern... hey matt, why dont you check the attitude at the door, you might be causing more harm to this site in the long run...when moderating isnt it best to carry yourself in a away thats above the mess? if not, you just end up being part of the crap? who moderates the moderators?

hey shorty,
quick and easy responce? matt's gotta hair up his arse and is taking it out on the org... btw: i find it a bit childish to require everyone to discuss their moderation concerns within the *org discussion* thread, yet matt can slam people left and right before killing a thread...and refusing them the oppurtunity to respond within the general section... just my lil opinion...

Well, it's been fun.
Time to lurk till all this policing foolishness and OkayPlayer terrorism blows over, and everyone can feel comfortable being themselves again without fearing "regulation". Hopefully the Org won't be too terribly over-regulated, but if so, then hey - it's their call. They gaveth, and now if they want to taketh away, it's their hand of God, so who are we to bite it. Till then, I'll most definitely make sure to count how many spaces I use between paragraphs, I'll curtail my use of nonsense words, and I'll make sure not to get too attached to the titles of threads I start. The point is to let people in General Discussion know that I'm asking for discussion of this topic to be confined to this thread. You think I want attention? I got more of that than I can handle (or want) just by locking one thread! Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Slam people left and right? Hardly. I made a few remarks, mostly in the spirit of dry humor. As for the opportunity to respond in General Discussion, so what? if the New York Times publishes an article that's critical of me, they have no obligation to give me space in their newspaper for a rebuttal. Moreover, unlike my newspaper hypothetical, NPGJughead chose to post the attack on my character in the first place. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. matt,
you well know how impossible it is to read sarcasm in ones post...expecially without any emoticons to give hints... yeah, this is your playground..do as you may...but the way you have handled this whole situation just rubs me the wrong way... your right, so what... do as you may...come off like an asswhole on your own website... like i said before, sometimes its better to carry yourself in a more dignified fashion...even if your dealing with people who are the lowest of the lows...then you will earn people's respect..this is just my recommendation, you can do whatever you want... this is my last post...this place is starting to smell real bad.

I didn't see the thread or read every other post about it but what I understand is Matt locked it because it was nonsense...if that's true then how come 75% of threads on here are not locked cuz most are nonsense. I'm not saying I don't read them or any thing bad but I think we all know there is a lot of nonsense here. So how come just this one was locked? *************************************************

I guess my question is why would Schausler take the locking of his thread so seriously that he would close his account??? Seems like he's taking things a little too personal.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it shouldn't of happened...i think the reason why everyone has been upset is because shausler's thread was light hearted. and to everyone that was involved in the thread & enjoying it (which was alot of us here) it was not as complete nonsense as so many other threads that have been up around here & never locked! it didn't seem like a fair action. it's not that we don't respect matt for his job around here, it's that we felt it not fair that shausler's thread be locked, and MANY others are left wide open. why alienate a cheerful person from posting?
peace to all! this is my last comment on this subject....and i do feel it too bad that shausler deleted his account. i hope he returns with a new account soon. it's over with now, let's all move on.....there's nothing we can do about it..... I just read shauslers thread and understand what all the reactions are about.
First I must say that i can see why Matt would think that thread is pointless nonsense, when this judgement is based on the first post maded by schausler... "voomyo vooms ta ta toomy voom voom chooms va va fout what ONA all about va va vear half that wrecka bought last year vooomalicious quite perpicious one voom alone i say one voom alone" That is not exactly the type of expression that sound like interpretable language to me. So I can really undertsand why he got a little pissed when he read that. When I first read it also made me cringe thinking... "Oh no, not again...what the hell are you talking about now shausler???" However very soon the thread evolved into something way more than pointless nonsense. I must say I genuinly enjoyed reading this thread and that is something I can't say about a large amount of other threads floating around this place. Allthough it was a one man poet show by shausler, he was doing it to praise the members of the org he is familiar with. I don't think that is such a bad thing to do and I am sure Ben and Matt would agree to that and certainly pretty much anybody who was participating or reading shauslers thread must have had positive feelings about it, since positive replies are spread all over that thread. That's why I can't see why this thread should have been closed, besides from the first posts made. I am not sure, but I think Matt largely based his judgement on these posts. But I also read what Matt said that the org will be monitored more strictly according to the rules laid down in the Terms of service. I welcome this and just as Matt i would urge people to report messages which content they have a serious problem with. Ultimately it is up to the moderator and the owner of this website to decide what to do with complaints and objections or threads that undermine the org's purpose in the moderators eyes. I think what matt was trying to say was "Look shausler, say what you want to say, but know that messages/threads that appear to be utter nonsense in our eyes risk to be deleted or locked" So I think both shausler as matt are a little to blame that this situation seemingly has evolved in to something more than it really is. However, we now do have a debate about the orgs policies, which was very needed. The people on the org have to realise that it is their own responsibility what they are doing here. You can't expect Ben or Matt to control everything in a perfect manner around here. Some people just cross lines. Sometimes people get punished based on partially wrong decision by the moderators, sometimes offensive threads are entirely misssed by the moderators. But often when a thread is out of control it gets taken care off in a quick and responsible manner. So if Matt does one thing that seems not entirely okay it doesn't make the entire org immediately a censored place. What matters is that you, the prince orger actively engage in these debates instead of just wait untill the moderator does something, or some other orger speaks out. It is not only the moderators that define what is going on around here, the entire community here plays a role in how and what happens here. this thread may just be THE reason to start debating more on what the org should be all about. You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.
