It appears that after I vote once I get a message telling me I've already voted on this thread. This should make abuse of the system more difficult lol

Excellent!

I am glad to hear it... now what we have to wait for is little groups of people to get together and conspire to vote threads down.

This may sound kinda dumb, but what's the point of a rating system?
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

In theory it is to help other orgers figure out which threads are good and deserving to be read.

I just rated this thread a 2.

Based on the second sentence in the first post is confusing and there is not a lot of content.

wink

I think the rating system is pathetic and pointless.

But when I come 2 the org I look at the newest topics and most active topics and then reply 2 what seems interesting. Then I go 2 the forums and look at the topics and reply 2 what seems interesting. What do I care what other people rate a topic?

It seems to me that it will just turn everything into a popularity contest were orgers like Icenine or handsclap will all have topics that have 5 stars but threads started by folks like me will have no stars!I vow 2 never rate a topic!I boycott rating systems! They suck!

ok time 2 get off my soapbox now...

I think that spelling error probably makes this thread worthy of only a 1 so the 2 is generous.

In theory yes. In practice it was deployed to register a persons dislike for you. (how completely puerile for a site inhabited largely by so called adults) So they would rate your thread zero stars over and over again regardless of the topic. That's the way it used to be but it looks like Ben has put something in place whereby we can only vote on a thread once. Good Idea Ben.

Why don't they put up useful stuff like a working search function on this site instead of bullshit irrelevant stuff like a rating system?

To answer your question: the rating system was already there, just not being used. It wasn't a huge amount of work for Ben to re-enable and fix the problems with it. And people asked for it, so he did it. Quite nice of him, I thought.

The search feature on the other hand, is a larger amount of work. One we haven't had time to address yet. This site is free, and we run it in our spare time since we all have proper jobs. The search feature certainly needs improving, and it'll get done when it gets done. Thanks for the "helpful" feedback.
