I started a thread in this forum about a month ago asking for props for your work in the gallery.
1 person bothered to respond to that thread....
So, I will thank you again!

Just a post to say I very much appreciate what Nana is doing here. The Org Gallery has become a very impressive resource indeed. No doubt about that! Kudos to Ben as well, for making all this possible.

Unfortunatly there are only a few dedicated people that know what kind of work is involved to get some high quality images/photo's online. It's really a time consuming job. So stop hotlinking and give a little respect to the folks that's releasing all that eyecandy for us.

Cheers,

/Aaron

I don't hotlink Prince photos from the gallery or elsewhere - in fact, I rarely enter the P:MM forum. But are we going to start getting "busted" for hotlinking other photos in the GD? That would be a bummer.

That is actually a very good question hmmm

Altho, I think GD would be safe because most all of the pics posted there aren't in the gallery.

Absolutely. But this was mentioned in one of my previous posts:
I have to admit, if pushed, I'm not so bothered by hotlinking to a site like CNN/MTV or some other huge corporate entity, as they can afford the juice, but directly linking to other fansites gallery photos so you can use them here is wrong - it's their bandwidth that's being used, and I'm sure they'd much rather you view that photo at their site knowing that they gave you a few minutes of enjoyment. And if you do post photos from other sites (even if they are uploaded to your own space) a simple credit as to where they came from will take you 5 seconds to type at the end of your post.

If orgers want/need to post photos from other sites, they can utilise great sites like Photobucket or ImageShack both are free upload tools that you can link directly to here - from there. Both are really simple and intuitive to use, (although both differ in many ways) and are free (although photobucket carries certain restrictions, which are lifted for a small annual fee). I've used photobucket for the past two years, and it's been a Godsend in many ways. I'd advise any Org newbies to go and check it out, you won't regret it if you're a regular here or on any other message boards on the web.

The basic jist of this being use common sense and show a little courtesy please - don't hotlink to non-commerical fansites. Yahoo, CNN, MTV etc etc can afford the juice, but fansites are a whole other matter, as this is paid for out of peoples pockets who have 9-5 jobs like you and I. Show a little respect for the people who have given you that site for your enjoyment. Use, but don't abuse.

I still use Photobucket if i'm posting a pic ec in GD, but that's just me - I'm more concerned with the gallery and the posting of P-related photos by giving them some guidelines.

For those Orgers who are still having problems viewing the Org gallery and avatars etc on the site,
it may be worth you taking the time to check out the following to see if it helps:

SYMPTOMS:
When you open a Web page, one or more pictures (graphics or images) may not be displayed.
Instead, a red X, or a placeholder, may appear in place of the images.

CAUSE:
This behavior can occur if one of the following conditions is true:

The Web page includes an image type that is not supported by Internet Explorer.

The Show Pictures check box is not selected on the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box, or the Toggle Images.exe Web accessory was used to disable images in Internet Explorer.

The image is displayed based on a script, ActiveX control, cookie, Java applet, or HTTP referral information, and your computer or network is configured to block one or more of these features. For example, you may have Internet Explorer or Symantec Corporation's Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) 2002 configured to block one or more of these features.

Internet Explorer cannot determine the character set (also called code page or encoding) that is used by the Web page, or a file or registry key required to display the Web page with the appropriate character set may be missing or damaged. By default, Internet Explorer uses the character set that is specified in the HTTP content type that is returned by the server, the character set specified by the meta element in the Web page document, or your Encoding preference if no HTTP content type is returned by the server and no meta element is specified in the Web page document.

Those of you who are still having difficulty viewing the Org gallery and site avatars may find the following worth trying/checking too if you haven't already done so.

There are possible conflicts with firewalls. I haven't found any issues within XP's firewall, but have come across conflicts with Norton Anti-Virus software in particular.

Within Norton, there are 2 options, security and privacy.

If you are unable to view images, double click your Norton Firewall icon in your toolbar and click the privacy button OFF.

This will allow full use of this site, and still provide you full protection from any unauthorized visitors.

When you leave the site, simply click it back ON.
