I'm Interested - Your attitude towards the Org... It's fairly obvious to me that we all come here for different reasons. I want to get some good feedback from the people who use this site regularly as to their attitude towards the site.
Basically what does the Org, and the people of the Org mean to you? I have my own views on this, and on other peoples attitudes towards this site but am very interested in other peoples feelings and views. Is the 'community' aspect of the site the most important thing to you. You know, the coming here every day and being able to interact and/or catch up with your friends, and get to know other people better to build up your contacts in the 'community'? Or is it a bit of light-hearted fun? Maybe used to pass the time of day at work? How much of your own time do you spend here? .. You know, that kind of thing. Your views please...

my attitude towards the org is probably a bit more serious than most people here would be comfortable with I'm guessing... don't get me wrong it's still light hearted fun but I mostly come here because I interact with friends and some of the people closest to me

I have to say that my reasons for visiting hear have changed. When I first visited it was really just because my sister said the forums were good and to get right in there. However I never thought that I would make real friends here. My view always used to be that making friends on the web was for people who could not do it face to face but I was very much mistaken. I have made some real friends here and have interacted with many people on a really personal level.
I often check in now just to check in on friends so I think the community now does mean a lot to me. The London bombings really showed that too. One of the early people to phone me and check I was ok was another orger and it was quite concerning waiting for all the other Londoners to check in.

I come here almost strictly for the GD and only meander to the other forums when the GD is especially dead. So the GD orgers are especially dear to me. These days I don't make many new friends; I stick to conversing with ones I made years ago, when I first started orging. I don't really care about contacts in this community. This ain't the place for popularity contests. But I do feel comfortable here, and somewhat established, and I like seeing what all of the old-schoolers (and n00bs) are up to and what's going on in their lives.
I suppose I also like interacting with orgers that are older than myself, as it gives me perspectives that I would not normally get - my circle of friends IRL are mostly my own age. Now that I think about it, age is not the only factor; socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and nationalities are all important too. Not that these categories define any one person, but I like to learn, and I find myself learning quite a bit from people whose backgrounds are different than my own. I don't necessarily engage in all of these debates, discussions, and conversations, but I do observe, and I do find it enjoyable yet informational. All the differing viewpoints are lovely. Where else would you get a group of such diverse people to converse on every little thing in the world? I am on the computer a lot to escape from my mundane life and shitty job. I play Sims and I email and shop and surf and blog and chat. The Internet is the cheapest and most convenient way to talk to my boyfriend, who is far away at the moment, so I find myself naturally going to the org to check up on things. The org has historically been a large escape for me, though I no longer see it as such. I am grateful for the friendships I have made through this site: both those that stay on the boards and those that transcend the org, whether it's via phone, various messengers, or person to person meetings. Love you guys. I mean, like, where is the sun?

Also, we are in our own self-contained little world so watching the drama unfold is especially titillating. I mean, like, where is the sun?

Point in question.Predom (who I have never met) just sent me a really nice org note because he was worried after my crash.
Much more than a website in my opinion Thanks Predom

A bit of escapism from work and passes the time of day. I hardly know most people here so I wouldn’t say I come here for anyone in particular. Those orgers I do know (and consider more "friends") are those I have met in person and then there are those I have exchanged a few org notes with. It can be a good laugh on here and sometimes quite informative, orgers are a smart and witty bunch.
Some days I never come here but I do go a bit crazy if I want to log on and the site is down – I keep trying, and then get paranoid that work has somehow blocked it!! Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

It's just another forum I visit with it's own strong and weak points. I'm not interested in any of the other forums, so GD is where I hang out. Some here are absolutely hilarious. They're the reason why I keep coming back. Years ago Prince was the reason I came here. I wanted to read reports, interviews and other articles, but that hasn't be the case for quite a while now.
I'm not here to make friends. I have very little im common with most people here and I'm not a people person anyway. Only a handful of people I met here over the years I'd like to meet. Some more than others.

I agree with that. I was out of the country, but it was interesting to read peoples posts and concerns.

I come here for a variety of reasons. But the one thing that keeps bringing me back is the laughing. There are some really funny people here. The diversity of the group is also a strong draw for me. I've never met anyone here. But there are a few I would like to get to know. The GD forum is the only room I go to.The orgers here are by far the coolest. The P&R forum just pisses me off. The Prince/Music room is straight weird, maybe even a little creepy. The non/Prince room has run outta ideas. And the others are whatever.

Thanks for your replies so far, (except AB!!! I already told you that the first one was a freebie, but you have to pay for the rest, bitch)!
Anyhoo, It's interesting to read your thoughts

Lots of reasons I come here Alive
The comunity is a very careing place...great group of folks.. The humor makes me ...and it's not usually at my exspence.. I am learning better spelling skills...did I put that sentence together correctly Have met some very, very wonderful folks and made some deep relationships... And ya know...this is a whole lot better than my local newspaper.. Can sip tea and read, be enlightened, laugh...sometimes cry too Alive there's more but, my tea needs refreshing

I'm mainly only interested in the Prince music and more and the non-Prince Music forums. I occasionally visit the GD or P&R forums, but I find the GD to be a little too immature at times and filled with a lot of yadda, yadda and the P&R I find borders on racism, bleeding hearts and too many bible thumpers, so I tend to stay away from them.
Mostly I come here to find out news about Prince and to get some opinions on other artists etc. I never visit the chat room and I'm not looking for new friends. It's nice if you can connect with a few people, but that's about it for me.

Ex-Moderator | I started coming here regularly to keep up with people I'd already met in person (at Celebrations past). I had an account but didn't post much till I had folks I wanted to keep in contact with (namely, Rio, Moonbeam, TRON and believe it or not, Aaron).
Then, I was sucked into the humour, the drama, the fun, but mainly the humour. And while I still probably lurked more than posted, I did post enough to make a few sparse connections here and there. But for a long time, it was mainly to get a good laugh now and again. Then for a while it was all about the connections. To just about anyone and everyone. I met more and more people in person, just kept getting more and more connected and wrapped up in it. Now I think I've pulled back a bit. I think it goes in waves. Certainly there are people I care about a great deal here, and this is my main forum for keeping up with certain people. But I also get really, really bored of it from time to time too. But even when I do (and am) I can't stop checking in, just to see how people are doing. |

I am here to give you humans fair warning of the impending cow revolution. I have heard from a variety of sources that Prince fans are fairly enlightened, and I have seen that here firsthand. Unfortunately, I have also encountered heartless carnivores who taunt me with pictures of slabs of my slaughtered sistren and brethren. I will continue to carry my message and also convey the wisdom of the great and holy Cow Oracle. You can still be saved and be given really nice accomodations and cushy jobs in the Cow World Order but you must come to grips with your heartlessness and cruelty and acknowledge the intellectural superiority of the bovine devine. Anything short of that will bring certain peril.
For what it's worth, "Purple Rain" is a really kickass album (for a human) and "Cream" is a insightful tune, as it equates a cow by-product with greatness. Eat Mor Horses

When I first came to the Org almost 7 years ago, it was to find out what was up with Prince. I wanted to find out if he was touring, and where.
But then I met some really wonderful people. They became my friends, my Org family. I love the diversity here, the laughter, and everything that makes the Org what it is. I am here Monday-Friday, and occassionally on the weekends.. Sometimes it is my get away from the work day. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

I feel the org is a place that most of us have the same interests in which is why many of us bond well and have fun here. I try not to take it too seriously given the fact I hardly know many of you. For example theres a large number of you who have met and hang out and such which is pretty awesome. So you guys are more open to eachother and others. But for me its a little more difficult not knowning anyone. I think its pretty cool though that I can come here have jokes play around and sometimes be serious. I'm 90% serious all day so its a good way to just relax and have a good laugh.

I live in small-town Kentucky. What else am I going to do?
I've found several people I'm quite fond of through my orging though: AzureStarr, Retina, 2the9s, bkw, JoeyCoco to name a few... Miss Re Re, even. But I could easily talk to them on other mediums, I suppose. Boredom. Insatiable taught me everything I know about balls.

Several reasons: It's a good place 2 indulge in Prince-geekiness and learn a thing or 2. The quotes at the top of the page make me giggle (particularly the random ones). There r some very funny and entertaining folks on here. There's hot boys and girls 2 look at. And mostly it beats the hell out of working all day!
