Can I some front page help to support me in my bid for Mayor?

Hey you guys! Hi Sosgemini!

You know me well. I have a question for you. I don't know how Ben and Matt would feel about this, but since I am running for Mayor of a town of 20,000 people (not too shabby) and, since I am probably the only orger to ever have run for office (that I know of) do you think it would be possible to give me a front page news article for awhile to boost my preliminary support and get me some recommendations to Democracy For America? You could put a note on there like "Prince.org does not necessarily support the ideas of Mr. Dodson" or something like that (just in case anyone says anything)-some kind of disclosure statement.

I've never ran for any government office before, but as you know, I'm very active in social, spiritual, and civil rights issues, and you know I would do well in the job.

If you can't put a story up for legal reasons, I understand completely.

Let me know!

Your friend,
Jason

i don't mean to be the hardass party poop, but i'm not comfortable with the idea. will we post a news item about the opposing party? if not, does that make our blurb on jason something that represents the org in a partisan light?

hey, i'm just asking. i'm throwing these thoughts out.

i'd really rather keep the news section on this site about prince's music and current goings on, and leave the site member shout-outs to creative projects and not political endeavors.

seriously - i don't feel comfortable with the idea at all. i'm sorry.

I wish we could help but it just doesn't seem right.

That's cool, but you won't restrict me from posting freely and often on the forums about my campaign, will you?

Thank you, bud. I really appreciate it, and I might ask for your help in the future! We could really work well together to come up with some decent social ideas.

Actually, I think it's a cool idea.

Headline should read something like "Orger Runs For Office"... nod

We've put less important things up... and if (and it's a big if) his opponent reads the Org, and requests it... then we'll put his up too!

I think it's important to run some *serious* stuff here once in a while, especially if it's Org relevant.

It's not like we're endorsing him, it's just news. thumbs up!

i respect your opinion, but i still couldn't disagree with you more.

i think if we made this a news item, we'll be setting a precedent that, as news moderator, i'm not prepared or interested in contending with. if someone running for office is org news, then what about orgers having babies? orgers getting married? orgers' family members dying? where do we draw the line?

i'm not 100% sold on putting NFO info on the front page of the site, and i'll tell you all why: because when i update the news page, i try to look at it through the eyes of someone who doesn't frequent the org, but wants to get a quick fix of what prince has been up to lately. sometimes, when it's slow like it currently is, the updates are fewer and less significant, and i understand if putting up an NFO blurb might be a harmless thing to do. but i think it's an exception to the norm, which is to keep all the news related to prince, as this is a prince fan site.

it's not just an issue of the politics that gives me pause. it's also an issue of maintaining a relevant news source and keeping some focus in the info we provide beyond the scope of our regular site members.

this is a prince fansite. it'd make absolutely no sense to post something that is nowhere near p-related up as front-page news.

put me in the "no, bad idea" column too.

Perhaps there should be somewhere for Orger announcements off of the main page? Running for office, babies, marriages, deaths, divorces, a really good sandwich at lunch, whatever. smile

hmmm

how 'bout a sticky in the P&R forum?

That gives it a little more prominence than a standard thread. It's appropriate for that forum. AND, it seems like it'll be a great case study of politics in action. nod
