Some Thoughts On Forum-Jacking... Recently, some regular users of the org decided they'd have some fun by jacking the 'prince: music and more' forum on this site (by 'jacking', i mean conspicuously bombing one of the forums with a bunch of nonsensical threads).
Okay, well. for a while, it was cute. we locked a lot of stupid threads, but everyone had their fun and the prank came and went like i suppose it was meant to be performed. But some people, you see, don't know how to leave well enough alone, and to those people, i offer the following thoughts: You bomb this site with nonsense threads, and those threads will be locked and/or deleted. You will also risk disciplinary actions ranging from a warning to being banned. who decides what is 'nonsense' and what isn't? the moderators do. if you don't like the mods' decisions, what can you do? two things:
1) discuss our decisions with ben, who created and owns this web site; or 2) you can start your own web site and make your own rules. please note that complaining about the mods' decisions in the forums was NOT one of the listed options. now. pushing boundaries with the moderators is not cool. jacking a forum on a web site and crying about it when moderators try to clean up the mess is not cool. disrespecting the people who help maintain this site FOR FREE, ON THEIR OWN DAMN TIME, is Really Not Freaking Cool. in short? KNOCK IT OFF. the majority of folks on this site are some grown-ass adults. let's try acting like it. irreverence is fine. being silly is fine. we're all intelligent people on here. if you don't know when you're taking it too far, maybe you shouldn't be using the ol' intrawebs unsupervised. now: enjoy the site, enjoy the weekend, enjoy your holiday, and be good to each other. thanks for your time, anx

I must reply on this thread...
Thanks to Anx for bringing this up, but we should all be aware of when things are okay to joke with, and when they've gone too far. For those who don't know where we're coming from... here's a quick post of the rules regarding this type of posting: Don't post trolls/ads/spam/get-rich-quick schemes/other junk. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Don't post useless off-topic stuff. Even if a silly, no-purpose post seems harmless and fun, don't be surprised if you get a warning and the message locked/deleted. You might think it's cute, but Moderators who have to wade through tons of posts like this, don't. In general, don't post advertisements. Advertising may be allowed in certain circumstances; ask a moderator privately before posting. If a post is mostly just an ad for another website, it will likely be removed. In general, post if you have something to say. If you want to start a new thread, make it worthwhile. Don't be lazy and give a 1-sentence "what do you think about X?". At least explain your position, why, etc... make it interesting to read; you're more likely to get quality responses. Thanks to all who make things worth coming here... - June7 |

some of you tend to forget all the stuff that us moderators have to weed through every single day here and all the things we gotta dabble with on a daily basis. what may seem as fun to you and your pals might not be too cool with us mods, because in the end we gotta sort all the shit out. not you. as i've said time and time again, if a thread of yours gets locked or deleted, take it as a lesson and move the hell on with it. it really should not be that big of a deal and i don't see why it's so incomprehensible to some of ya'll. don't bitch and moan over the shit--it only makes things worse. and don't pull the "mean mods" card out on us, either. we're simply doing our job. kthx.
