Recently i asked 4 a mp3 rip of the vinyl version of "Still Waiting", & my question was snipped with a "please don't request copyrighted music on here". Well, OK, but...

- What's wrong with asking 4 something that isn't (& probably won't ever b) available anymore from any official source? I mean, i can't cause any loss of $ 2 Prince or WB by asking someone 2 share this track with me, since there is no way of legally buying it.

- How come u tolerate people asking 4 "san jose jam" or "glass cutter", which r recent, npgrecords copyrighted material, by people who missed it, & don't tolerate someone asking 4 a 25 years old track that xists only on vynil?

- How come u would tolerate it if i went 2 the Marketplace & asked "does any one have a "Prince" LP 2 sell/trade?", & not if i go & ask "does anyone have a vinyl rip 2 share?"? I mean, if i buy a 2nd hand Prince vynil here, it's still copyrighted material, & neither WB or Prince makes $ with that deal.

Please understand that i perfecly understand the pressure the Prince Internet community has been under by Prince's lawyers, & that i perfectly understand that u 4bid any request 4 bootlegs, or material that is still available 4 sale by WB or NPG records. But i'm not getting where the problem is as far as it's about old & rare stuff like the vynil version of "still waiting" or, say, Debbie Allen's "telepathy" or André's "the dance electric" (just exemples, i got these tracks already), which CANNOT b purchased anyway. & i'm also not getting why it would b legal 2 sale a 2nd hand record, but not 2 share it via MSN with ONE person (which is not high-level sharing like p2p is).

If you understand the pressures put on the Internet fan site community by Prince/NPGMC, then why are you asking this question?

Trading or selling actual albums on here is kosher. The money's been paid for those albums - after that, you can do what you want with them. mp3s are more tricky than that. They can be created, traded, distributed for free, at a loss to the artist. For us to act as a 'by request' source of free Prince music files hardly works toward the artist's best interest, does it? Is your mp3 of "Still Waiting" worth this site getting a cease & desist?

by the way...how is it possible that there's NO WAY of purchasing the vinyl version of 'prince' to get 'still waiting'? you've checked gemm.com, ebay, froogle.com, shopping.yahoo.com and there's absolutely NOBODY out there selling a copy? i think with a little resourcefulness and effort, you'll find this record ain't exactly the holy grail.

The point is, i guess, the "tricky" situation of a mp3 file, that i havent't considered this way... Knowing about the pressures u've been under doesn't mean that i understand just how far it went, so maybe u can understand someone not 2 know where the xact limit IS when it comes 2 P's lawyers.
I could argue this or that but i can see u take this personnally & i don't intend 2 have any problems with anyone here 4 a theorical question about how this site works or should or shouln't work. But there's no need 2 get angry, i say it again

But i'm sure u can understand that seeing u tolerate the many "can someone send me the San Jose Jam" (which is a recent NPGMC song) that i saw in the NPGMC forum could let me believe that a song from an old WB vinyl would b ok.

i don't have the time or mental fortitude to check every post on every thread, but generally speaking, when i see requests for stuff like 'san jose jam' or 'glass cutter' in the forums, i'll pull those posts. if you see 'em and wanna point 'em out to me, i'll be happy to moderate accordingly.

Thanx 4 taking all this with humor, i really didn't want 2 offend anyone or criticize ur job with "moderation". As i said b4, i have the greatest love 4 the org & enjoy this site 4 being a nice community AND the best source of Prince in4mation on the internet.
