Complaints and confusion regarding the movement of threads into inappropriate forums

I've been quite unhappy, confused, and vocal about the way certain mods (who shall remain nameless) move threads. A lot are being moved into this forum - even though they have nothing to do with prince.org site discussion. I don't understand the logic, and don't know what I should do about this issue - should I contact the moderator personally, even when it's not my thread? And it happens so often, it seems futile to orgnote the mod to discuss the matter every damn time it occurs.

Thus, since this is a 'more than once' type of occasion, the situation should be acknowledged and rectified.

Do mods use their own personal judgment when moving threads? Because whilst I believe the vast majority of you are doing a swell job, there are others - two or three - that need to have that shit checked.

There should be a handbook, guidelines, or something so I don't have to keep dealing with this.

Please, somebody, help.

Hi Pam!

If you have an issue with the way "certain nameless Mods" are handling things, you should speak directly to that Mod (him or her... or damn, it could be me eek). I'm sure they will give you the reason for the move.

I always try to give a reason for any action I take on a thread... I'm not sure that's the same thing everybody does; everyone has their own style.

As for moving things... in all honesty, it's easier to Moderate if your looking in "your forum" and you only see things pertaining to what your supposed to be moderating. Plus, it helps to pawn off all potential trouble makers on other mods... like I usually do to your threads.

mr.green

Hope that helps.

Yeah..it's to the point where the org is only about the moderators and who or what THEY like! Other orgers, musical artists, etc.... Case and point. Althom just started a thread "selling" himself on the org. An org auction. (yes..I've placed my bid! wink ) But when I started a similar thread called "orgBay" (eBay..hehehe) I was told it wasn't allowed. Ask Muse if ya don't believe me. biggrin Oh well. Perhaps it's a case of to many cooks in the kitchen. shrug

omfg

the reason I'm addressing this complaint to everyone, and not just to the mods in question, is because I feel that it has BECOME an issue due to the numerous numerous repeatings of the same act.

mods (not just one, mind you!) keep moving wrong threads into wrong forums for no reason. It's half-assed logic.

since this keeps happening, I think it should be recognized by the group of mods and perhaps a memo should be sent round to everyone. as I recall, Anxiety and sos told me that being a moderator involves no formal training - it's kind of learn as you go and use your best judgment. thus, since this is a persistant problem, perhaps it should be addressed and rectified?

thanks for responding to me, June. I do appreciate it when I am able to converse intelligently with mods on a public thread in a public forum. It allows the entire community to see the wheels turning in the process.

okay I started to search for threads and I dug up a few (mostly in this forum), but now that I think about it, the point of my thread was NOT to call out specific mods and scold them pubicly. The initial reason for the creation of this thread was to ask if all mods could be made aware of this issue. I wasn't kidding when I was asked for a memo.

I do understand you guys moderate this site on your own free time and out of the goodness of your hearts, and I do appreciate that! But it does irk me that there seems to be so much inconsistency from one moderator from the next. If there is no official training, there should be, or at least some kind of guidelines that mods can follow so you all are on the same page.

I think I'm coming off bitchier than I intended. Is anyone following my train of thought? Should I make myself more clear?

i think asking for prior training is a bit much.....right now the mod portal is a bit broke....some of the activity isnt viewable to us...but in the past we would question each other on certain actions in an effort to better align our actions....

but, i really dont see that many threads being moved around....and for the most part those threads that are switched over to site discussion should be....

hi natty!!! you need to org me....we got a dinner to plan for...

I agree completely Natsume. I just didn't know how to bring it up. I think overall the mods do a fabulous job here and I feel a tad on the bitchy side pointing out what I feel are mistakes, especially when there are plenty of mods to give each other support and share their ideas with each other. So I've been trying to just ignore it. But I tend to be a titch obsessive compulsive about organization on occasion so it's really been bothering me in a way.
The only concrete example in recent memory I can think of was a thread linking to a website that cataloged japanese tv and print ads that featured hollywood stars that was posted in the GD. Just for fun, it was cute, etc. Within 2 posts it was moved to Politics and Religion. And the replies it received weren't even political. It was pure pop culture content. When I questioned on the thread why it was moved I got a stfu as reply from a different mod. So, I dropped the issue.

It's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and I don't want to be rude in pointing out what I feel are errors. I just want the org to be the best damn website it can be. So just a little feedback for you. Thanks. smile

oh, goodness! No offense was taken. I know you weren't being mean. hug

But it didn't really address the issue either. It just kinda brushed it off.

Again, I really don't wanna make a big deal out of it. Just giving my feedback.

There are guidelines to follow. I basically just wait for trouble to happen and then step in. I think with the volume of mods on this site it's best if we stay out of the way, so to speak, as far as I know/understand.. threads get moved from GD when they are, only about prince, another artist, or that are a P&R topic.

I think I've moved two threads, one about "Who here believes in God?" or something like that and one about favorite Prince performances.

shrug

Seriously, if you see one of us move shit for what you think is no reason, drop the one who moved the thread a note. I'm sure there is a reason for it. nod
