On the subject of the cloud suit, oddly, I've just noticed a person that isn't Prince is wearing the cloud suit on the cover of ATWIAD album. I would have thought only Prince would have been shown wearing this.

3. The main outfit worn in Under The Cherry Moon.

If you get the opportunity to, then do go!!!

I hope one day we have another exhibition with further items such as the Purple Rain motorbike.

lol lol lol

Agree with you - loved the exhibition! We did the VIP section too so got to handle the guitar - I was very wobbly and needed a bit of assistance, lol! In honour of Prince's obsession with the number 7, we spent SEVEN hours there (yes, we're nuts, but because it was fairly quiet, we were allowed to wander in and out of the space).
.
In answer to your comments above, it IS Prince on the cover of ATWIAD - when he was involved in its design he had cut his hair short and bleached, in a typically Prince-esque response to the long-standing look of PR. His hair dresser of the time (Earl Jones) said that Prince had a bad reaction to the bleach so it all had to be cut off, dyed back to black, and so the resulting slightly bizarre 'do' you see in the Raspberry Beret video was 'all (I) could do with it'

.

The main outfit from 'UTCM' is indeed on display (maybe you missed it) - I'm assuming you mean the grey one with black swirls, long at the front and with a high curved back, showing his spine and top of buttocks? If so, that one was there and I spent a long time scrutinising it!
.

In other news, because my friend and I were there such a long time, we became involved in discussion with a lady who had been party to the initial organisation and opening...Apparently, the siblings are on such bad terms that they all had to be accommodated in separate hotels and shown around the 02 at different times...ALSO - and this is odd - the half-siblings were buying memorabilia from the exhibition because they don't own anything connected to Prince and (it seemed) hadn't spoken to him in quite some time...!

I bet the older ones had not spoken to him in years. Sharon lived in New York and admitted she had never been in Paisley Park. I believe this is the reason he did not have a will or a trust. He knew how they would act.

Had a great time at the exabition.
Done the 2pm on Sunday 6th with my 6 year old son and my wife!
My son was apparently the youngest so far to be on the VIP tour.
I was abit nervous when he held the guitar as he likes to rock out 😁
My wife loved the Make up and shoes on display(typical)
It felt slightly wrong as Prince was so private!

No. It's in the main section.
.
The VIP section contains miscellaneous clothes - many with 'Minneapolis' emblazoned down the sleeve. There are also outfits he hadn't worn, along with design notes and illustrations. And shoes.
.
There's an open touring case, containing lots of outfits hanging up, exactly as he had left them.
.
My favourite bit in the VIP section (aside from his geeetarrr) was his dressing table - lots of make-up (Chanel, Mac, Olay, Dove) and his TOOTHBRUSH - and lots of jewellery (mainly rings, I think).
.
One funny story our guide told us was of one very small, female fan, trying to hide away in one of his tour cases / trunks so as to be locked up in there, amongst his bits! They're now very careful to count people going IN and OUT so as to avoid this happening again!

I felt it was really well put together although the unseen footage I’m sure I have seen on YouTube!
I was sceptical about the exhibition been planned by Prince for a tour.
That to me was someone has made up to justify the event.
And although the tour guide was great and friendly his knowledge of Prince was slightly vague.
Still a great experience!
Saving up for Paisley Park so I can chuck a shit load more money into the Estate.

Despite numerous people saying he sent out plans, blueprints and many exhibits were already completed? He saved all of this stuff for some reason.

I thought the exhibition was exceptional!

It's easy to suggest improvements but ultimately to stand next to classic outfits was just magical and emotional - such a priceless experience.

There are so many highlights....

To see the Batman/Joker outfit was just mindblowing! I still can't get over that. Simply amazing and awesome and incredible!!!!!!!

Also to see the Sign Of The Times outfits were a serious highlight for me. It's hard to explain. Those items just hit my hard.

The leather jacket from Graffiti Bridge was really interesting. I didn't realise the metal symbol on the back stuck out so much - that must have been dangerous.

The Purple Rain outfits were cool, but I don't like the fact that everyone seems to be stuck in 1984. It was interesting to see how faded the long coat had become.

Did Prince have a thing for white plastic buttons? Soooo many outfits were over the top with the horrible white plastic buttons. I wonder if someone bought a massive box of them and felt they needed to add them to everything!!!!!! smile

I only have one negative comment. The lighting was awful in the main room around the symbol shaped stage! It was like a neon search light moving around. When I was looking at the Raspberry Beret cloud suit, I couldn't make out the colours due to this horrible and very stupid light!

On the subject of the cloud suit, oddly, I've just noticed a person that isn't Prince is wearing the cloud suit on the cover of ATWIAD album. I would have thought only Prince would have been shown wearing this.

I really liked all of the merchandise. I already had the main items I wanted as I had them shipped from Paisley Park via a friend. So I bought a few bits and the offical exhibition programme - I wish this had many more pictures of the exhibited items.

It was awesome to be given a 'free' copy of the USA pressing of Steve Parke's 'Picturing Prince' - the one with the extra 16 pages - so it's nice to have both versions of the book.

If I was in the position to add three items to the exhition, they would be....

1. The yellow outfit from Gett Off MTV performance - so sad that wasn't there

2. The fluffy coat from SOTTs worn during U Got The Look and If I Was Your Girlfriend.

3. The main outfit worn in Under The Cherry Moon.

If you get the opportunity to, then do go!!!

I hope one day we have another exhibition with further items such as the Purple Rain motorbike.

Ooh same! I shouldn't be too hard to spot, I'm going to a Japanese festival on the same day so I'll be dressed in cosplay lol

On another note, I forgot to mention this in my earlier post, did anyone get the Paisley Park books and if so did you get a printing mistake like in mine?

I wouldn't be too bothered, but I paid 35 quid for this book. I'd expect for that price it to be in decent condition.

I would see if i could exchange it but I live in Manchester as I mentioned earlier so it's not exactly a 30 minute journey away just to exchange a book.

The bag was an exhibition tote bag and included a vip pass.

Not really. The programme covers the periods of the exhibition but only has 3 or 4 pictures of items shown at the exhibition but I will double check.

All the programmes have been poorly finished by the printer. Personally I would have forced them to reprint. I had to go through all of them in two shops to find two decent good quality ones.

I didn't look at the mug but I did look at a Prince Symbol Tamboracca if at all that is what you mean.

It was about £65 to £75, I can't quite remember but it was certainly in that price bracket.

Here is an image I found on the interweb!

I am sure it's a great exhibition and I was planning to go. But just watching this video and seeing the very outfit he was wearing the night he brought me up onstage during the earth tour (the white kimono with blue/red trim) - and at the same venue as well - feels very emotional.

Just got back home. Probably the highlights for me were:

- The notebooks. Would love if it if they photographed and shared some of these with the fans. Lyrics for an unreleased song"1010" and early Purple Rain draft / notes, so awesome

- The costumes. They made a few mistakes (the Batdance outfit probably didn't have a yellow shirt and boots!) but seeing the Purple Rain tour stuff up close was awesome

- The Batdance Auerswald bass

- Checking out the purple Taylor acoustic up-close in the VIP area

- The fence was a nice touch, notes from fans were awesome.

- The cloud bass!

Disappointments:

- All the video footage. Just ignore it.

- The lack of "primary" guitars. It really feels like they should have had at least one of the heavily used cloud guitars on display, either the original Hohner tele or one of the clones that he played a lot onstage, and at least one symbol-guitar. Their absence is ludicrous.

- Mistakes. There are a few.

- Merchandise is all generally junk. Don't bother!

- The VIP area isn't worth it really

- A bit rushed - only 1.5 hours to explore the exhibition including VIP and merch shopping

It is definitely worth a visit, but it is also a little heart-breaking in some ways to see it done quite so badly. Hoping we'll see these artifacts presented better in a future exhibition at Paisley or wherever. And for the love of Jehovah, can PP find someone decent to run the merchandise side of things.

I was on the same one as you. Was great to see your son loving it. Wish my parents had introduced me to Prince at that age hehe. I only fully discovered him about 13 years ago

I was also sceptical about the exhibition always being his plan. Don't believe that for a second. Also the tour guide said he'd never seen Prince live was a little surprising

Introduced my son to Prince from the day he was born.... had slightly hilarious and embarrassing moment when aged six or seven he was swinging on the gate singing Pussy Control....

Went to the exhibition at the O2 and really enjoyed it

My favourite item was the suit he wore when he collected his Oscar for Purple Rain

Spent way more than I should have.... keyrings, badges, zipper pulls and the clothes and guitar books. Decided against the paisley park book and the exhibition programme.... I thought there was certainly more of the exhibits in the guitar and clothes books plus lots more.

I would advise anyone to buy these books if they want a reminder of the exhibition...

Yep.... stuff was overpriced... but where else are you gonna be able to get this stuff! I did notice the guitars were gone too!
