Just my opinion but I think it's a bad idea. I like the dance party and restaurant plans but I think Prince would have frowned on this karaoke idea. "love's the only drug we do in here"-Prince |

it might not be entirely out of line with Prince's preferences. sometimes (not often) at the late night jams he'd invite a fan up instage then hand them the microphone to sing the lead....
a bit off-topic but i wonder if PPark will ever re-open to people who want to record original music??????? [Edited 11/13/16 6:15am] |

It's my understanding that he had been prepping PP park long before his passing and had a plan in place that they are following. Maybe this was part of his plan, not much that we can do about it now. Except make the trip there and SING IN STUDIO B! Like OMG!!!!! Or maybe just be cool, you know, whatever.

What's the problem?
It seems a bit tacky and I'm not sure what the point of it is?
I could understand VIPs having their picture taken at the mic in the studio *as if* they were recording a vocal... but actual recording? it's just another PR nightmare waiting to happen. It'll be a matter of time before people start posting them online & the Paisley Park police start pulling them down.

I like that idea to. Recording at PP might be fun to. I really hate that the picture opportunity was ruined. Sitting at the piano that Prince played was truly amazing even if it didn't play. I don't PP to be a stuffy old museum, I want it to be fun and joyous. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince |

1) Prince offered this up on the Interactive CD already, so it's not a new idea. I don't see an issue with it.
2) It's been posted, and the thread is still active: http://prince.org/msg/7/435075 Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

I'm not sure there was a replace Prince's vocal with your own feature on the Interactive CDROM. I'm not even 100% sure there was a remix feature. The Metropolis CDROM had a very basic "Studio" where you could play loops, but wasn't official.
I could understand if they'd invested in terminals that allowed fans to remix tracks. Dropping in and removing loops or tracks etc I think there was something like this on the NPGMC t one point... but the press release basically says:
"Legendary Studio B is where countless recordings took place. But we've put a stop to that so fans can butcher these very same hits in the worlds most over-featured karaoke lounge."
They could be charging upwards of 5k per day to record there. It's a fully functioning and very expensive culturally signigicant recording studio steeped in history, and it's being decommisioned... for this?

I wish everyone would quit bitching. If we keep finding fault with everything they do , they may say Fuck it and sell PP -- take their money and run. They're trying to make if fun for the fans--- to let them say they went and not only saw stuff from behind bars, but had an interactive fun experience...geessh.....

Not sure what Metroplis is. Interactive had the ability to remix "Race", and take the vocals out. You could also karaoke "Kiss" if you wanted.

You're right about the Interactive CD-Rom. I remember now you've said it. There were a couple of other bootleg CD-ROMs available. Metropolis which had loops from Loose!, Pink Cashmere, 7, Big Fun etc.. Freedom 2.0 was another although IIRC this was mainly video content.
That said, I still stand by my original statement. If they're going the Karaoke route, Just do it. Have a karaoke and look-a-like contest in the Music Club. Sell booze. That's going to be more profitable and probably more fun than trying to sell an opportunity to sing over an MP3. Not to mention logistically 1 person will sing then have to wait for 9 other people with very little atmosphere.
Using an actual studio for something so trivial seems... ugh.

This sounds fun...I guess...under the right set of circumstances...
But I wonder if someone who does this, not me cuz I can't sing, but could someone with "talent" use this somehow that would violate P's copyright?

I don't see any problem with this. Not something I would do because I sing like shit but that's not the point. RIP |
