Dan Campion is correct "The management company should not have sold tickets before the city council had a chance to review their request." BUT I know that they've had knowledge of the tickets being sold every since AUG. No excuses for PP OR The City of Chanhassen

Hi (My Name),I appreciate your concerns and thoughts on this. I am also empathetic with the stress on you and your family over having already made travel plans. I am a Prince fan as well and want to ensure the museum is something we can all be proud of once it is officially opened.I want to make sure a complete plan is in place to ensure our residents are fully considered/protected before we open the flood gates. The management company should not have sold tickets before the city council had a chance to review their request. We will see what we can do to remedy this situation while we complete the plan with the applicant. Yep. Not only that, but they had a session on September 20th, and could have raised a lot of the questions then. I think the council have their noses bent out of joint, and are being irrational and unreasonable. Issue a temporary order. I suspect that is what will come out of their special session today. They have to be getting innundated with calls and emails.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure it's the recent concerns by local residents that have forced the City Councils hand and thrown a spanner in the works. There's always a rainbow 🌈 , at the end of every rain ☔️

What a mess! Agree, no tickets should have been sold w/o prior approval. Wasn't their a prior P&Z meeting? did they approve the opening of PP? The Planning and zoning board usually provides the City Council recommendations. Either way the person hired for the estate should have been working closely with both P&Z and City Council to secure the votes needed to open PP on the target date. Wonder what the Today show with Tyka will be about....should be interesting to watch especially if it was pre recorded. If Prince was able to hold party's at PP then why can't the event still go on?

Should be interesting to watch the follow-up. I wonder what Al Roker will have to say about the CC mess? And it should also be interesting to see the fall-out for the city of Chanhassan if they don't correct it.

I doubt anyone in Princes family would have known how permits and the city work, that is why they hired an estate manager. If they were any good they would have known!

Yep. I don't find any fault with the family (I'm sure they are sick over this), and I also don't find a whole lot of fault with the estate manager. Turning PP into a museum AND the opening date were not secret. The CC should have been more forthcoming with their concerns KNOWING the date it was slated to open. This seems like a "Gotcha" moment from the CC, and it's making them look bad.

The meeting today is just a planning commission meeting, NOT a city council meeting. On Sept. 20 the Planning commission gave their approval to the city council for the opening of PP.
In order to get this straightened out there MUST be an emergency meeting called for the city council, to fix this problem. ASAP! They can always give PP a temporary permit.

Thing is we don't know who dropped the ball. This doesn't make Bremer or Graceland look good at all. I have a really hard time believing they would be that incompetent. It seems more likely to me that they were given assurances they shouldn't have been given and thus they moved forward as if this was a done deal. Paisley Park is in your heart

Just sent mine...better late than never...
Council Members and Mayor,
I am respectfully asking you to consider alternative options for allowing tours at Paisley Park starting Oct 6th. While it may not be feasible to approve the re-zoning as a museum by then, is there not any other option that would allow the tours to continue....temporary approval of permit, re-classification of the already scheduled tours as a "Celebration" as Prince has had done before, consolidating the tours to ease traffic/safety concerns until a permanent solution can be put in place?
I believe that the fans, including myself, that have already made non-refundable travel arrangements would be open to some compromise. I also believe that those of us whom are traveling from out of state/out of the country are going to come to Paisley Park regardless. Even if it's just to see the outside and take pictures. I believe, without a plan in place, this will cause more of a safety concern than the originally planned tours, which seemed to already address these concerns.
Looking forward to your response.

Sounds like the City council are emailing the same form letter to everyone. Sheesh. What a mess.
I bet it didn't take the city 120 days to take Prince's money. [Edited 10/4/16 10:19am]

Hey Cherry! Yes, I think that's because it's not a public meeting...or at least the meeting isn't open to public comments. U can be the side effect, I'd rather be the dope.

The planning commission giving approval doesn't mean the City Council have given the Green light. I assume the safety concerns are down to the high volume of visitors (just my opinion) and perhaps the infrastructure isn't fully in place that meet council approval. I can't see how anyone expected PP to be fully up and running in a space of a few months. The Council won't just be looking at PP but how it affects the running of the City with such a high footfall of visitors.

I live in town and also had tix for the first day. I was floored this morning when I found out that it was "tabled". There have been some reasonable solutions, temporary permits and what have you. I believe this is what will happen. No one has said this is a done deal. It is "tabled" afterall no dead. This museum will happen. I want the tour I paid for...not a refund! I will also say this....I have seen and heard those that believe this is too soon for a museum or any sort or tribute. I understand we all have our own pace for processing and mourning. However, those that believe that are not the voice of us all. Anyone feeling this is too soon is no obligated in any way to go or participate in any way. Nor should those folks feel their position is more valid or important than those of us who need to go and get through our own emotions. I appreciate their concern but worry about yourselves please...those of us ready should have the choice to do what we wish and get this museum and destination for that matter on its feet and operational. Let's not forget there is a huge tax bill coming in the next few months...Prince's estate is counting on this as well as a number of other revenue flows to keep Paisley Park and Prince's legacy alive. I believe all of us who loved him in life and mourn him in death have a responsibility to keep the legacy alive and well. Pheromone make a ni**a go crazy

There may be ways around this. For example, since it's still a public business, PP COULD do like Prince did for his large concerts and charter a bus from the bus station, or work a deal with LA Fitness again (although I think that connection was through Kirky J) It's now in the hands of management. Which is cheaper, taking the hit on revenue loss and possible litigation, or unique solutions. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Not if you can't vote in Chanhassen.
Why would they care what someone that isn't a constiuent thinks?
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
hopefully they'll care because this affects local business (people coming to PP may also visit local shops, eat in local restaurants, etc.). Plus, the PP museum would create jobs for local people (in fact, it already had -- and i imagine those jobs are now in limbo). So hopefully those things are also being weighed.

True....you might have a few constituents right now in the councils ear and they don't want to lose votes at re-elect time but hopefully they look at the bigger picture, the entire city has a lot to gain by people visiting from out of state.
