The mayor needs to call a special meeting for TODAY, the sooner the better to give PP permission as a temporary agreement to go ahead and open on time.

agree. the City Council could allow this weekend to go forward provisionally, under a different label.

legally, i would think that the Park could still go ahead with the scheduled tours by re-defining them as a "Celebration".

after all, Prince regularly held Celebrations at Paisley Park, and no re-zoning permits were required for these events.

I hope they do a temporary permit for those caught in all this. The City's issue seems to involve traffic. Perhaps the estate could have additional shuttles to reduce cars until the gates are sorted.

In the initial pitch, the estate said the traffic measures would not be in place in time for opening. In my experience, that's a red rag to city officials.

I just pulled out my actual tickets and looked....

At the bottom it says "All ticket sales, service fees and facility fees are final and non-refundable. Tickets cannot be exhanged or resold. Admission valid only for date and time displayed on ticket. Terms and conditions apply"..

Nothing about the city council. And yea, Paisley Park could come back and say "well this falls under terms and conditions"...and then try to not give refunds. But to me, ....that would be the most crooked thing any place could do.

To me, when it says all sales are final, it just means, "hey, if you decide not to come, that's your problem, not ours...you don't get your money back". But when its THEIR issue of why some of us won't be coming, they should be required to refund us.

^i'm not in any position to speak on the traffic issue, but as i recall Prince often employed shuttles to transport folks to and from larger events. wouldn't that be enough to satisfy concerns?

I have tried to call every number for the city that I can find. I can't get thru on any line. People must be swamping them. Which is good! They need to call an emergency meeting.

Last night the Estate said they made a number of changes due to city concerns. Also they dialed back the number of tickets sold and the hours of operation. There were definitely changes made from the original proposal.

They do have a bus option which would pick people up and drop them off at the parking ramp by the Chanhassen dinner theater. I think they said the buses would run every 10 minutes.

So is Dr.-Freakin'-Funkenberry trying to claim that he the one "official source" for info on this? What a fuster-cluck.

He doesn't approve of this or Graceland so he certainly is a biased source. And who declared him the only official source for things anyway?

Hopefully they will find a compromise. It will be easy to scale back, it's quite clear from the amount of tickets still available that demand is nowhere near their initial plans.

How do we know how many tickets were still available? I can't check the website now because they're not selling them anymore.

Yeah last I checked neither the the Chanhassen Town Council nor Graceland hired him as their PR rep. Sorry, Doc.

I just seen on a facebook page called Prince Live the best, someone commented that the council has called a special meeting for today. Don't know how true that is though????

I don't see anything on the city website about a special meeting. The Planning Commission has a meeting scheduled tonight, but I'm not sure if that's new or a standing meeting...

The date is listed on the planning commission agenda document I have but on that version, the "Items" column for this meeting was left blank.

As of a few hours ago, they were still up. Putting aside the 6th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th for obvious reasons, you could pretty much book any slot on any day. Even the 7th had every slot available this morning.

I live in a tourist-y area. In the summer, you can't breathe there are so many people. The traffic is horrendous. But: we locals know how to work around that because the tourist dollars are a tremendous boon to the economy. Chanhassen needs to learn how to work around an influx of tourists. They should understand that the first year or so will have a heavier influx of people, but as the years go on, the number of visitors will dwindle. Eventually, PP may become a school for the arts and/or a working production facility with concerts and events held on weekends. But for a couple of years, Chanhassen has to chill on this.

My guess is a lot of people are like me; waiting to see how it goes and what the experience is like. And maybe some were waiting for the official city council approval.

They must have JUST UPDATED this. I checked less than an hour ago and they were still selling them. Had this all been done a week ago ppl wouldn't be as upset as they are now.

It looks like those who bought tickets might not get their money as this was posted on Twitter and it mentions "subject to the City of Chanhassen approval". I feel for all those affected by this

My suspicion is, if they can't find another solution, they will refund tickets. They may not be required to, but refusing to do so would create a LOT of ill will. Graceland will need all those early-ticket-buyers to return when/if approval is granted -- and to bring their friends etc.

I agree!! The terms shouldn't apply if they don't hold up their end. If they just take our money, I will be very hesitant to ever go back, because that's shady, and I probably won't be able to afford another trip anyway. This is such a huge bummer. sad

Just got this email from town council member Dan Campion (in response to my email):

-

"I appreciate your concerns and thoughts on this. I am also empathetic with your stress over having already made travel plans. I am a Prince fan as well and want to ensure the museum is something we can all be proud of once it is officially opened.
-
I want to make sure a complete plan is in place to ensure our residents are fully considered/protected before we open the flood gates. The management company should not have sold tickets before the city council had a chance to review their request.
-
We will see what we can do to remedy this situation while we complete the plan with the applicant. Stay tuned to our city website for updates: http://www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us/
-
Thanks,
Dan"

I really hope you're right. Sadly for those who have purchased non-refundable flights & accommodation they will still be out of pocket. I really feel very sad about this. I had a gut feeling all this was being rushed to coincide with the tribute concert & based on how long everything takes by my local council in the UK it all looked a bit optimistic in my opinion. Hindsight's a wonderful thing but with no fan memorial for some this was their chance to pay their respects so this must hurt a lot sad

I always thought that with Prince gone his estate would be handled professionally. But no, it seems that all we have left of Prince now is his ineptitude in running a business consistently and, again, professionally.
